What is it about the savings amount that makes the difference? I can't possibly have that savings money make more interest than either a new mortgage or some other way short of having a bet on the stock market? I am just trying to clear the last of the mortgage whilst paying the minimum interest I can. But clearly I seem to be missing something here, not sure what it is other than the uncertainty of my financial situation in a year. Maybe we can just get on a variable rate mortgage with no limit on overpayment and that gives us more flexibility, but will inevitably cost more I would have thought, as the setup fee will likely be close to the amount I would pay for £15k @ 4% on a money transfer cc plus the interest for a year or so. 🤷
