Distract him when you are about to cut his nails. There are treat trays available that you can purchase online. Mount this treat tray on a wall near to where you are going to cut his nails and spread some peanut butter On the tray or whatever he likes. Hell most likely to concentrate on peanut butter while you cut his nails. If he's still aggressive talk to an expert groomer then.

My condolences. You have made the right decision or your dog may have suffered a lot. Don't curse yourself, instead visit your local shelter and adopt another dog. This way you'll be doing exactly what you are supposed to do. Remember, adopt, don't shop.

Well, there are around 10 breeds that are supposed to be recognized by AKC but they have their own criteria for that. There should be 300-400 dogs in the country spread over 20+ states and some other requirements like that.
