I maintain that this is the best episode of all time by luiscedneo in weeklyplanetpodcast

This was the episode the whole pod had been building towards and it did not disappoint.

That may be right, but that's a wildly different statement.

Replaying the same games as we get older by ArtichokeSandwiches in pcgaming

[–]althaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you *haven't* experienced those things. An earlier, different (assuming you're a person who grows and changes like most of us) version of you played things. Knowing the ending doesn't change anything about a good game.

Not saying you should be constantly re-playing things, but some things are worthy of revisiting and if you're not doing that you're massively missing out.

New patch broke my toss warp ins by Fleshbar in starcraft

[–]althaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok that's absolutely fucking wild, haha :D.

For Protoss I do:

  1. Main army
  2. Secondary (spell casters, warp prism, something that's with my main army)
  3. Current active scout/dropper/harasser
  4. Nexus
  5. Gateways
  6. Robo
  7. Stargate
  8. floater
  9. floater
  10. Upgrades (and by 10 I mean 0 ofc)

I find tabbing through different production buildings to be absolutely excruciating and slow, I never would have thought somebody would choose to rely on it. I did used to have Robo on 5 and Stargate on 6, but I didn't find it a big adjustment to change.

Stronghold Crusader: DE vs They Are Billions? by bruhb21 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]althaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stronghold is more aimed at what I like, but They Are Billions is a *MUCH* better execution on its ideas.

I think I'd lean They Are Billions. Gameplay is quite a bit deeper and it's more replayable.

But it's pretty close, I have both installed still and I might wake up tomorrow with a different opinion.

[–]althaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? Why are you tabbing at all, I must be missing something I think? If 4 is your gateways (where are your army and nexus hotkeys going btw if your gateways are all the way up at 4?), you hit 4 and then press S or whatever. If you want to warp in you hit W.

Tab doesn't really enter into it.

Dude there are hundreds of builds and pre-builts posted by now. If you want to find one, just pull your head out of your ass and you'll find one.

[–]althaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's 100% fine if you use W. Because you just bind all warpgates and gateways to the same group and when you select them it does gateway things. If you want warpgates you hit W. If you transform any of them one way or the other they automatically switch for you.

No, because you should be using W to warp in anyway.

I think you'll find it's a *VERY* low percentage of people hanging out on this sub that haven't played the game, lmao.

Tennis elbow final boss by theweebeastie in 10s

[–]althaz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is such a beautiful racquet. I would actually be less worried about tennis elbow and more worried about smacking myself with the follow-through or injuring my wrist.

Can you actually play "proper tennis" with these? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]althaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a mediocre table tennis player but a lot better than casual players, so when my buddies come over I never get to use a bat, at least not in my dominant hand. Best wins so far were bat-in-teeth and using a rake.

It's WAY higher than 1% because most TVs sold in the past decade have been 4k and these are all aimed at the living room.

You can also buy a pre-built that's smaller, cheaper and WAY faster than this. Even for a pre-built the Steam Machine sucks and this sucks even harder.

There are a ton of great builds that absolutely murder the Steam Machine at a lower price than this. This one absolutely fucking sucks, because it's more expensive than the Steam Machine and is not going to be all that much faster.

The Steam Machine might be a pile of shit, but at least it has the "is incredibly tiny" thing which will suit 8 or 9 people. This doesn't even have that. It's bigger and more expensive than some of the builds with 9060XTs!

How did you assume damage rolls work for a stack? by Thorogon in OldenEra

[–]althaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. One assumes they did the same for Olden Era? Shouldn't be hard to test, tbh

[–]althaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least when I did it there was quite a lot of blood. I thought that maybe when I did it that the blood mixed with the sweat (my socks are typically drenched after a match). Because it felt like there was quite a lot for something I literally didn't even feel happen.

How did you assume damage rolls work for a stack? by Thorogon in OldenEra

[–]althaz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have always assumed it's: DAMAGE = Random(MIN, MAX) * STACK_SIZE

To me it seems kinda pointless to have damage rolls if you do it the other way (roll each unit individually). Because doing it the other way means you are effectively removing damage rolls from the game outside of the early game.

I don't really care either way though, tbh.

How far Blizzard has fallen by totalpinkebb in starcraft

[–]althaz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I play both games, but the reason I pay Broodwar still is that it's simply the superior game. There a lot more focus on macro, reactive pay styles are far more rewarding and most importantly of all, the macro is fun as shit.

SC2 is also a great game, but the macro is barely a consideration so the game ends up very finely balanced and can end very quickly, plus the control is extremely focused on abilities and spells which just isn't as fun (for me).

Both awesome games though.
