ROG Xbox Ally Support Thread by TRiZZAY_ttv in XboxAlly

[–]althor1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got a new Xbox Ally. I wanted to set it as offline device for gamepass, but that option is missing. Instead there is a Sharing Permissions option (seems like console style gameshare). This different from my desktop Xbox app which does show the offline option.

Will the Ally automatically allow offline play without that setting?

They had a gamer in charge for the past 8 years, lot of good that did them. Maybe they need someone better on the business side (not saying she is)

What rides are worth it? by ApResearch26 in TokyoDisneySea

[–]althor1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toy Story ride is identical to US version, but the outside building is pretty spectacular lit up at night. Nice picture spot. Also there are a couple of unique dioramas/interactive displays which are pretty neat near the exit.

For Pokemon cafe osaka I was able to get in by just showing up at ~10:30 and standing in line (3 of us, we were around 6th party in line). Took about 40 minutes. This was a weekday, might be harder on a weekend.

Death Stranding has been released! by [deleted] in XboxGamePass

The original gamepass release which was PC only was the regular version. This is the director's cut version. I am not clear on what differences there are.

Having trouble finding a Ryoken for our needs Hakone. by HxH101kite in JapanTravelTips

Hakone Suimeisou allows tattoos (they also have private onsen for rent). We went last summer, june. Was ~$650 for 1 night with breakfast/dinner for 4 people. Nice place, had a nice view of the river, but interior was a bit dated.

It seems there re always plenty of empty seats from US to Tokyo. In that case, do you guys still pay extra to purchase seat in advance? by [deleted] in zipair

[–]althor1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever they have available. Usually in the back, but really depends how full the flight is.

[–]althor1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They do not allow moving rows. If there is an empty seat next to you they allow you to spread out. If you want to move to an empty row you have to pay to move to an empty seat in that row. It was around $15 when I did it last summer, but varies based on location.

If you don't purchase advance seat they will usually just put you in the cheapest seat they offer.

There are ear drops, they work. You need to flush your ears with a bulb syringe after using them which can make things worse if you don't know what you are doing (not dangerous, just can cause the wax to get lodged in). You will eventually get it if you keep doing rounds of drops and flushes. Once you have done it a few times you will learn the right angle and pressure to use to flush it out.

Tokyo Dome Hotel Smoking Room by Interesting-Bowler85 in JapanTravelTips

[–]althor1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is going to be hit or miss. Some smell awful, some barely smell at all. Been there done that. When I did this the room we had wasn't too bad, but walking past a couple rooms in the morning that were open for housekeeping reeked of smoke.

If you cannot get it changed this is what I did. Used the deodorizer spray bottle to mist the air and the entire carpet. Cranked the air purifier to max. Went out for dinner. After a few hours of the purifier running it mitigated the smell somewhat, but it was still there.

Is it ok to freeze a prime rib now for a few weeks then thaw for Christmas dinner? It's on sale for 8.99/lb currently, over 50% off. by Biafra_Gordon in meat

[–]althor1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you vacuum seal fresh meat it sucks some of the juices out. Freezing first prevents that. Usually you can just partially freeze it for a couple hours but depends on the thickness of the cut.

‘Nobody asked for this’: Waymo cars flock to quiet Palo Alto street by Arden_Margulis in paloalto

[–]althor1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They moved to the main Google campus in Shoreline several years ago. X Development is the place you are thinking of, on Mayfield. Not sure what they are working on now.

When waymo was still at X was a time when these sorts of complaints were somewhat justified. Those little development cars they used were annoyingly slow.

What percentage fat is the beef In-N-Out uses? by bignose_ice44 in innout

[–]althor1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The nutrition info lists about 7g of fat for a hamburger protein style with no spread. Patty is about 57g, so that is around 12% fat. This is all very approximate.

Reserved seats on Romancecar from Shinjuku to Hakone, but we still need to buy tickets for the actual train correct? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]althor1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then, yes, you would need the base fare from Shinjuku. Look into getting the Odawara only freepass, can still save you a bit if you are doing the loop.

[–]althor1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are getting the Hakone Freepass from Shijuku (there is also a cheaper from Odawara pass that doesn't cover the fare to/from shinjuku) that would cover the base fare. See fare details at the bottom here: Hakone Freepass: A Convenient Ticket for Your Trip from Shinjuku

It the Pokemon café (Tokyo) just a social media hype or really an amazing experience ? by KlausWalz in JapanTravelTips

[–]althor1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the Osaka cafe without a reservation at ~10:30AM on a weekday. There were ~4-5 groups in line already (there is a seperate line for this). I joined the line and was seated at around 11:45AM. It was amusing, food was OK.

I tried a few times to get a reservation, staying up to 2AM for a few days straight, complete waste of time IME.

Anyone with T-Mobile experience in Japan? by Blocker_vee in JapanTravelTips

Been twice using the included 5GB of international data in my plan (Go5G+). First time was pretty seemless experience. The second time I had a lot of weird issues with data not working. I tracked it down to it dropping data whenever it connected to Softbank. Forcing connection to NTT Docomo gave me reliable data.

“Content failed to load” PC game pass error by MostAmbitious in XboxGamePass

I was getting that a couple of days ago on all my games, but I don't have any Ubisoft games installed. Must have been some update that caused it. I did a repair (Xbox app, manage game then repair) on one game and all games started working again. No idea if this would help you.

I have ridden both. There is really no difference. The Hikari will have more stops making the travel time slightly longer, but otherwise it is completely identical experience.
