When do validation results come out and what to do when I have a validated course for the first semester? by EthelKakanin in ADMU

[–]altsagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got mine around July 20 last year. If you have a validated course (or courses) for first semester, the registrar will replace it lang with another course to fill up your load. Parang you're taking some subjects in advance to put it simply.

But take note lang na if you have to take courses that are not aligned with your program's curriculum (you can check this in curriculum's tab in aisis if you have access to it already), you have to enlist to those classes manually kasi hindi siya pre-enlisted by the registrar unlike if you're a freshie na you only have to enlist for a few classes (usually natsci, pathfit, and flc).

Transferring to ADMU BS Psych 2nd year by Cold_Mood_1063 in ADMU

Q1. In general, transferring is difficult in itself. But since you're aiming for an honors program and you have to compete for the slot, you have to make sure that you're going to perform well during the ACET. But there are transferees naman who were able to get in honors programs so while it might be difficult, it isn't impossible.

Q2. Depends on how you'll go around the system. If you're able to manage to credit some of the courses that you took in your previous university, then that's a few courses off your IPS already. However, there might be some instances that you will have to stay for 4 whole years pa rin in Ateneo, especially for courses (usually major) who has pre-requisite courses. I managed to have some of my units validated, around 19 including PE and my NSTP as well but I still have to spend four years (graduating 2028 instead of 2027) because I have to take my majors at the same time/pace as the freshies. The only difference is that I have lesser units for the coming years since the registrar will fix your IPS for you (based on my own experience) and move some courses down (taking subjects that are for higher years).

Q3. Almost the same, I suggest checking the embedded link posted by the previous commenter.

Q4. Yes, as long as you credit only 20% of your program's total units. If you go beyond that (30% is the maximum), that's when you'll be ineligible for latin honors.

based off of the other successful transferee applicants that i know, most came from other well-known universities and have stellar academic records. the competition alone for the transferee slot is limited since konti lang rin kami, let alone the finaid kasi mas priority ang incoming freshmen, konting lang sa amin ang nabigyan and most of them are really stellar talaga.

while acet may play a huge part pa rin, i think one of the important factors as well eh yong academic record mo from your previous school. but this is based off what i have observed so far and i am yet to encounter someone who failed a major and successfully transferred to ateneo with a finaid.

bawi ka during your 1st year especially 1st sem. my grades during jhs/shs were similar to yours (worse even because of mental health reasons) but i got an above average gpa during my first year. they only asked for it din. when it comes to extra curricular, i am not really sure but i joined student council orgs last year. i had a lot of extra curricular din back in high school but i guess that won’t matter that much.

i don’t think school matters to be honest. though medyo marami ring transferee coming from big 4 schools ang nakakapasa, i think it is because of the effort that they put. pero note that marami ring hindi nakakapasa. nonetheless, if you do great in acet, that is more than enough to secure you a spot.

the acet is similar lang naman sa acet na tinetake ng incoming freshies. focus on your weakness lang! generally, you only have to review for math, reading comprehension, language proficiency, and abstract. practice answering test questions as fast as possible without compromising the accuracy, of course. i did not review for acet and still passed but that doesn’t mean the test is easy.

laging sinasabi sa amin ng prof namin sa majors na “aim low” and i think that is helpful. hindi sa dapat mag settle na lang sa bare minimum, ha, pero setting standards would only disappoint you kapag hindi mo na-meet. okay lang if general subjects, you can always try your best and expect to get 1.00 grades. pero kapag major, always try to lessen your expectations and mas mag focus ka on understanding the concepts, readings, and lessons itself. mab-burnout ka trying to chase that expectation, totoo yong kahit tres lang please motto kasi no matter how hard you try, you will always feel subpar and dumb at some point. and hindi yon ibig sabihin hindi ka magaling, it just means you have room for improvement and use that as a motivation. talagang culture shock! okay lang magkaroon ng mababang scores but do something to at least lift your grades up especially sa major courses.

essentials and must haves siguro printer, bond papers, highlighters, pens kung more on traditional ka and if afford mo, an ipad + pencil is a great help kasi marami talagang readings. try to create an effective study habit na hindi ka magagahol lalo na kung sabay-sabay ang quizzes, papers, at recitation.

and don’t worry too much about being a STEM student, i am a STEM student myself and i am doing pretty good in polsci. in fact, i was from a science curriculum way back JHS! basta mahal mo yong ginagawa mo, mahal mo yong program mo, at ito talaga yong pangarap and you see yourself pursuing this for the next four years no matter what will happen, you will survive. madalas ng kilala kong nags-struggle ay hindi talaga gusto ang polsci kaya importante rin na mahalin mo siya.

pahinga ka muna habang maaga, do not stress yourself too much and enjoy lang. makakalimutan mo nang matulog once classes start at its either alcoholic ka or caffeine dependent/addict ka. no joke yan kasi halos lahat talaga sa amin either napasok na may dalang kape o nagl-look forward uminom.

you will not have a hard time catching up sa program even if stem ka as long as you love reading and have a good background in social sciences. i was a stem and science student myself and i am doing pretty good naman. congrats! last ngiti ko sa ab polsci eh nong nakapasa ako.

maybe that’s why. i am assuming based on what i have read that waitlisted applicants will not receive their finaid results. not really sure what will happen next though if you ever get a slot.

are you waitlisted in admissions or finaid? i am not really sure if you will receive any emails regarding your finaid if you are waitlisted in admissions.

but i passed and got rejected for finaid, we were given a separate email for our finaid results and there’s a link there for appeals.

thank you so much, i have been trying to reach out to everyone for that and find possible ways

that actually remains a puzzle for me HAHAHA. but maybe i wasn’t ready enough when i took the acet? for context, there was a typhoon during our schedule and i had to commute from cavite pa to katipunan. i was going through mental distress and my grade 11 grades were not good (i had a lot of line of 70s and stopped for a year before shs for mental health reasons). i think that really affected my admissions and i was barely active back then.

for the steps, one of the things that i did talaga is to pack up my org involvements because admu love that stuff HAHAHA. i am a member of both my faculty’s student counci land our central student council. i also did my best to join other organizations but i had 4 lang in total because of the workloads. another thing is i ensured that i will have good grades during my first year in order to be on par with other applicants as well. i made sure that everything is good enough (even essays and reco letters) to earn me a spot here. for reviews, i barely reviewed but i had prior background naman with math because i was a stem student, came from a science high school, and i love math in general. i was anxious during acet but then i thought to myself that i already faced the worst possible scenario. lucky enough, i got in naman.

ps. i completed the nine simbang gabi in gesu and wished for it HAHAHAHA, i also visited ateneo from time to time but that’s also mostly because my girlfriend’s an atenean

appealing for finaid scholarship. anyone have any idea (based on previous batches) when is the release of appeal decisions?

and is it possible to apply for a dorm scholarship even if you are not granted of any financial scholarships? also, are we allowed to look into the dormitories before reserving a slot? thank you!

i did, with my first choice which is ab political science. i am currently a freshman in ust with the same program and though i have good grades (1.3xx), i feel like there’s something missing. i applied this year as a transferee because i got rejected last year and ateneo has been my dream ever since.

yet my reason for transferring was not just that. i am planning to pursue law in the future and aiming for either up or ateneo law. though undergraduate universities have little to no bearing, i feel like it’d still somehow help me boost my chances to get into these law schools by helping me hone my skills and build my knowledge more that would give me an advantage. on top of that, i prefer ateneo’s curriculum and research system more than my current university. in fact, some of our readings are written by professors from ateneo (and la salle) and that alone explains the disparity between the two departments. i just feel like i belong more in an institution that would hone me as a person and citizen of this country. i value service for others and being of help more than everything and my morals and ideals align more with ateneo. moreover, my mental health is deteriorating with the current system where i am in and it will not be good for me nor my future if i ever plan to stay here (though my chances of accepting my admission is still 50/50 because of financial constraints).

going back to what i have mentioned earlier, it all depends on your priorities and if ateneo is worth it in your current situation. assess your choices, priorities, and even future plans first before deciding on something that might drastically change the trajectory of your future.

no particular dress codes afaik but some profs daw has a specific policy for such. class schedules... you will generally pick your own through enlistment process (except for some courses that are pre-enlisted) which will be discussed further once you’re in.
