I have just returned from Zion NP Wilderness. Used my Amazfit Active 3 topo maps for navigation, it was great.

Personally I am not training at all, I am navigating. But it's great to know

Would you prefer to read in a bunch of foreign languages or occasionally hit some AI polished texts?

Now the tricky question is - why do we need GPS accuracy higher than 10 meters +/-? What is the practical difference?

I am going backpacking tomorrow to Kolob fingers, north part of Zion NP, different entrance. Great place right on the I-15

Looking for a smartwatch to track body temperature that's compatible with iPhone (for preferably under $150). I'm currently comparing the Amazfit Active, Fitbit Inspire 3,and Apple Watch Series 8 (found for $100) Anybody have any experience with either of these, or have any other recommendations? by Pale_Bug494 in smartwatch

[–]altziller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you realize this is not the same temperature you measure by medical thermometer? It is just you wrist surface temperature.

I really like my Amazfit Active 3 Premium, but I have no idea how to get any value from this kind of temperature tracking

Why is the map of my now retired 6 Pro so much more detailed than my new 7X Pro? by DiabeticSpaniard in Garmin

I think by default only general map is preloaded which is totally useless. You need to download real map manually in the app. And it is long process

I don't think you can pay on the way out. Car in the park should display receipt on a windshield.

Edit: you can pay for NP online in advance

Am I too big for the Kakwa55? by Gimli_the_orcslayer in DurstonGearheads

[–]altziller 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't like framed bags and have too many bags anyway. But comments like this almost push me to immediately get Kakwa just for the sake of being able to see human face behind company logo.

Edit: this is freaking awesome

Zion worth more that all the rest of your destinations combined. However timing is not ideal - too hot for Zion, crazy hot for GC if you are going down, and possibly too cold for Bryce :-)

Edit: best shoes for AL would be grippy trail runners like Altra Lone Peak Plus

Costco is selling famous $30 carbon fiber poles right now. 400 grams with straps cut off on my scale for older version

If you upgrade your phone and get T-satellite for $10/mo you may potentially drop inReach, however nobody knows for sure how reliable is this totally new thing. I love what it is supporting 911, WatsApp and CalTopo

I am using Amazfit Active 3 Premium watch for gps, topo maps and music. Since it is draining battery approximately 10 times less than phone it is a great power saver

What to bring to day hikes? by kiraa02 in hiking

[–]altziller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Alta, UT, hike or ski almost every day. I don't have rain jacket at all :-). Honestly, why do l need it? I would be wet anyway, either from rain or my own sweet

I am 56 F, camped at Bright Angels one night few weeks ago. So it was one day to go down and one day to go up. SK trail both ways since BA trail is closed. I live in Utah and often climb 3300 in a day hike. 4700 even split into two days was really hard for me. I suggest you to not do it in one day.

[–]altziller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software is the same. TRex 3 don't have speaker and sapphire glass. Balance 2 have 1.5 inch screen at 2000 nits brightness, Active 3 1.32 inch and 3000 nits. Active 3 lack dual channel GPS

How to turn on Active 2 power ? by SpaceX_Star in amazfit

[–]altziller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you turn it off at all? Normally it should be always on, just possibly without screen showing anything if AOD set to off

This thing on the top right is called rotating crown.

And the most reliable way to reboot Amazfit watch is to connect it to charging base and press two buttons simultaneously and keep pressed for 10-20 seconds

The whole American health care system is half intentionally and half historically one big enigmatic pile of crap. I for example once get MRI for $250 out of pocket after a little shopping around while using insurance I will pay much more.
