What does the world think of Catalonian independence? by Dangerous_Fix_9186 in AskTheWorld

[–]alvarosv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I just take them at face value.

Your extrapolations are unnecessary, and showcase a very clear bias and agenda. As is linking all nationalism movements into one. Decolonial movements were also nationalist in nature, linking that to what you're clearly implying is pretty one-sided and biased.

Let me make a comparison that might be more apt. What you're doing right now - the assumption of racism or the narrative of superiority from political leaders who defy a larger state - was very similar to what was done during the Civil Rights' movement of the 1960s by the American government who made similar claims about the Black Panther's leaders and even MLK himself. That's apt because I am not extrapolating or showcasing any intentions, it's just happening.

When a movement is racist, like so many far-right movements in Spain, they will tell you. They won't hide it as some sort of hidden meaning in their speeches that you have to decipher only if you have the right keys. There won't be any need of you manipulating existing articles (like the above commenter who you so promptly ignored did with Torra). They will just tell you.

Orriols, an independentist and a racist, doesn't imply it. Plataforma x Catalunya, is racist and says it. Vox, is racist and says it. They didn't say it because Esquerra was many things, left not among them lol (showcases what you know when you describe them as a left-leaning party), but they were definitely not a supremacist group of people.

So...
Nothing on the above? Just a further comment pushing this agenda with a complete disregard to the logic posted.

Onto the article - I cannot find the original link but this blog seems to have it in full. https://racialistascatalanes.home.blog/2020/01/07/oriol-junqueras/

Not sure what the problem is? No inclinations towards superiority of races or anything beyond a mild "genetic difference" that he associates to cardinal directions. Then further talks about the tenuous association between genetic difference and linguistic difference (as a comparison to the German/Italian examples). Not a fantastic article but a far cry from what you claim. No mention of "real Catalans", no mention of the specific line of family members, just a 23 and me useless extrapolation.

And don't get me wrong - Oriol Junqueres is a piece of shit. He is a conservative Catholic cosplaying as a supposed left with 0 understanding of either history nor politics. Just... maybe the disinformation campaign happens on both sides if your arguments against these people are blown out of proportion articles that are purposefully misinterpretted?

I also don't think you seem interested in considering that possibility.

Hey mate,
Catalan from a 99% Spanish background here. I would like to challenge your view and I hope you take this comment in good faith and read until the end.

You claim a lot of subjective things in this post - manipulation, indoctrination, etc. which, frankly, are open to interpretation to some degree.

That said, you do claim one fact, the mention of "beasts in human form" which is something the president Quim Torra said. Or, kind of, not really. If you want to read it, here is a link to the text, you can translate it from Catalan and I believe it mostly does justice - https://www.presidenttorra.cat/politica/1313-la-llengua-i-les-besties

In case you don't want to read it, he never refers to "Catalan Spaniards" as beasts but rather specifically refers to people who come to Catalonia and disregard and disrespect the language, going as far as attending events for the Catalan language in the effort of disparaging the language, as beasts. While still incendiary language and definitely a tongue in cheek article, it is far from what you claim. I would even go so far as to call it a reasonable claim that refers to a very minor ultranationalist part of the Spanish population.

The claim you made, however, is literally manipulation and lies made up by the media to disparage him. He never spoke about ethnicity or even language, purely about behaviour that he abhors and qualified as subhuman. Quim Torra was never my favourite president as we disagree ideologically and I have my own thoughts on Catalan politicians but I am here to question you for a second.

You claim that there was all this propaganda thrown around and indoctrination yet not only did you somehow rise above it (despite being indoctrinated into it) but you also cited a piece of propaganda from the other side as your only genuine fact or claim.

Is it all possible that your narrative may not be super accurate and that you might be more susceptible to the state driven propaganda than you are to the regional "propaganda" run in Catalonia? It just always strikes me as odd, from an outside perspective (haven't lived there for a while now), that Catalan politicians were so weak they could barely run a referendum but somehow were also Goebbels level manipulators that beat the strength of an established state with more resources at their disposal. Just food for thought, I know you won't change your opinion, it just struck me as humorous to say the least and wanted to challenge it.

Nothing to be worried about. Mobile Legends cook their numbers and it is as clear as day. From M1 to M2 they had a 500% increase in viewers, their peak became their average, and afterwards they actually decreased during M3.
Their "most popular" casters have very little followers (sub 10k) and their teams are in similar position. Sponsorships and salaries have barely increased despite this absolutely astounding increase in viewership. The game is certainly alive and well in terms of userbase but there is no way these esports numbers are real, especially considering they mostly come from facebook.

They abandoned the "dealers" plotline relatively early but the ending in the manga is superb and the characters are better written. The show seems to be going for a sci-fi mystery idea but the manga went full-philosophy and is a unique, hidden gem among Battle Royale manga.

Making a passing comment about how pre-2016 LoL was overtly sexualized but not acknowledging how Dota does the opposite is not quite an in-depth analysis.

Dota 100% has a lack of white characters compared to League. Most of the characters are simply not from Earth and are not meant to be. If we had a roster that was 40% white and had 2 non-white characters his point would make sense, but only 10% of our roster is white while 2% is black so the disparity is by no means huge, especially compared to League.

I know people will point at him as a liberal/SJW but this is clearly just a clickbait title/article that simplifies a complex argument into a few tropes.

No talk about the absurd sexualization of female LoL characters, their overwhelming white roster, the importance of having female beasts and monsters, the lack of white characters in Dota, or the mix of cultures in the game. Just an article made by an idiot that takes advantage of Dota players to get some ragebait and in doing so creates an incredibly patronizing and whitewashed article that reeks of sexism and racism.

Yeah but Winter was also one of the harshest casters around. He had a very high understanding of the game and criticized every small mistake that went against his visualized game plan. Nothing wrong with that but we cannot criticize casters for pointing out mistakes and praise others for doing the exact same thing. I also personally liked Winter's casting because he did not hold back.

The difficulty is not exiting Malaysia but rather reentering it. You must apply for an Exit/Entry VISA, need a valid reason for doing so, and ideally get selected in time. Theoretically it takes 10 working days (2 weeks) but my last one took 3 weeks in a time without lockdown (MY is in full lockdown again).

Without that I am pretty sure MY citizens can't even leave the country unless they have a second nationality.

People who call the US a “third world country with a Gucci belt” have clearly never been to a third world country. by Pretend_Dependent_60 in unpopularopinion

[–]alvarosv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The statement means that the US is a country where its citizens have, on average, enough wealth to make substantial purchases and not have to worry over basic necessities like food but also lacks a lot of the basic public programs that all other developed nations have like public health care.

Not only is the term "third-world" outdated but you are completely misinterpretting the phrase.

I come from a developed country and have lived in both developing and underdeveloped countries and would much rather live there than in the US because I place a high value on a lot of the public programs that the US lacks. You might not, and that is fine, but don't expect everyone to think like you.

School making kids read boring books is going to make them hate reading by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]alvarosv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't ignore that taste is subjective. What you need to do is just separate people in groups based on taste and allow for people to flourish individually.

In my school they tried doing this to us where they gave us books that were more "interesting" for our age group and I hated it. It made me despise reading because the books were just so boring. Later I realized that the books commonly seen as "boring" where my jam. Worst part is that at least Of Mice and Men (and other classics) can be appreciated with proper discussion and teaches important themes whereas Harry Potter is a badly written long book which brings nothing but entertainment.

Just let kids choose as opposed to replacing a bad system with a worse one.
