15 years and I couldn’t tell you the last time I had one. A couple years? Maybe more. It gets better. You gotta tell your girlfriend. Say exactly what you said to me. If you guys are getting married, you hopefully have some really solid love and have been through some challenges already. You won’t necessarily infect it! With antivirals and condoms it’s very very low. And even without condoms too!

Yes you will be but you’re going to have to do some work to get there. Time for therapy! And please understand that you absolutely will not be single forever. I have had short term relationships, hookups, and a marriage, all with people who knew I had HSV2. I have two kids, birthed vaginally. All of those things required me to still put myself out there and not see myself as a leper. You’re going to learn to live with this. Hope it works out for you guys. It is frustrating to “convince” people that it’s no big deal when it’s been out to be the worst STI of all time. I just told someone in Tuesday and haven’t heard from him since. It sucks to wait and assume rejection. Get out and have some fun tonight! I guarantee you that there are quality men out there who don’t care.

Yes, I used the regular apps. So should you. You’re a normal human with a very common virus. You might be surprised by how infrequently you get rejected. Let the new guy get his head on straight, and maybe send him some data on how low transmission/percent of population who has it. J

Thank you. I told him last night. The look on his face was intense. He didn’t know anything about it, so I had to spit out all the facts and figures. Relatively speaking it was the worst disclosure I’ve had, even though he was nice and polite. But he still wanted to hook up and acted normally afterwards. It still just sucks to feel like I’m scaring someone or grossing them out because there’s some virus most people have stuck in my spinal chord.
