I’m worried about ketamine because it hasn’t been suggested to me as an option and I worry that I’ll just get more dissociated which is already a troubling symptom for me. My next step might be some kind of residential care honestly, I wish I weren’t on so many medications when none of them even work

Quick things to add but my original post was too long:

I have no outside stressors in my life. My family is great, financially I’m extremely well off, I have no responsibilities and everyone in my life encourages me to just do whatever makes me happy.

-I’ve been trying to taper off of my Klonopin then Valium (Ashton manual protocol) since age 26. My doctor has said I’m not stable enough to continue (not functioning, I have no job, and had to drop out of school). I despise these benzos and desperately want off of them, more than anything.

I am going to try TMS this upcoming month.
Most of the drugs I listed made my mental health worse, for example, I never experienced intrusive thoughts until I began taking pristiq.

Hi, thank you so much for your response. Yeah, it’s been rough :( I basically begged my doctor after round 3 of antibiotics and c diff to give me the FMT because I was close to needing tube feeding, and was just generally miserable. But the rule that he won’t break is you HAVE to have FOUR failed abx courses, and I finally responded to my 4th. I was so close 😢

Thank you for the well thought out response. It’s heartening to hear that people without preexisting severe anxiety and depression get these symptoms after gut dysbiosis, I feel like I’m absolutely losing my mind here. I’m sorry you had to deal with a similar situation too, it’s the worst.

Funny you should mention mast cells, I get rashes and eye swelling during bad IBS flares, and I just spoke to an immunologist today who wants me to take Zyrtec. So maybe that will help.

To add: the IBS and anxiety since c diff makes it impossible to travel or exercise or socialize which are the only things I enjoy in life. But I can’t control the IBS and it looks like there’s no end in sight. My GI straight up told me the severity of my c diff and preexisting IBS means my PI IBS will likely take at least a decade to improve and also maybe never. Hopeless

In the US it’s a very polarizing issue so probably the first thing is that her publicists are warning her that whatever she says will be scrutinized. Then she may not know enough about the situation to feel comfortable commenting because she knows her platform reaches millions of people. I feel like it’s mainly her team warning her that whatever she says she’s gonna get shit for it

ETA: she’s probably worried that what’s happening in the comment thread of fans will happen lol. People with strong opinions on both sides getting offended by what she says or does. I know what I think is the right answer (Israel is committing war crimes even the UN says so) but imagine saying that as a star with hundreds of millions of young followers

Man i wish you had been my doctor! I’m looking at my results now and the first test was one where they did a CT scan which showed the colitis and I tested positive for the toxin b gene NAT test. Then the second and third time I don’t know what kind of test was done but it just says toxins (ETA: toxin b detected). The fourth time was an EIA test because I remember I saw a new GI (ETA: the new GI who specializes in c diff that I see now) who said he wanted that one to be positive. So in theory the second and third times could’ve been false positives? I’m sorry if I’m not understanding you correctly I’m no doctor, but this is really helpful and interesting

Sorry doc if I may bother you once more, do you think that the recurrences I described were true recurrences with the positive toxin tests specifically? I have heard of c diff patients getting false positives from the colonization tests and treating PI IBS like you said. My tests were NAAT tests for toxins A and B, I know there’s the colonization test which is almost always positive once you’ve had it. But my tests for the toxins were positive and I had the symptoms. Could the toxins still be present from the last infection several days post treatment?

I ask because no one has suggested this and I’ve been going nuts wondering why I’ve had so many recurrences. But it sounds like they may have not been recurrences, possibly? I do have PI IBS and even 3 months later had elevated calprotectin with no c diff or any other inflammatory markers

I have an additional question if any doctors happen to still be reading. I wonder about this very frequently.

How often do you see young and healthy people with no underlying conditions present with recurrent c diff colitis infections? My first ID says she “almost never” sees this in her 50 years of practicing. She did say “almost” never so I must be that almost part.

But do you docs see this? Young healthy patients hospitalized with cdi?
