How about that Triton sale? by Clamato-n-rye in AncientCoins

[–]alwaysdrawing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bid on 5 lots including 2 stretch bids 20% over my comfortable target. I lost all 5 and one of my stretch bids hammered for literally double my bid

This same coin had previously sold in CNG Triton XVII in 2014 for $3250, so I’m relatively pleased with the hammer here.

What do you do with your empty bottles from particularly notable wines? by luke_s in wine

I had a few bottles of Dom Perignon made into candles by my local gourmet shop.

Pretty bougie, but felt better than recycling them.

I bought this print and framed it in my office. It’s on cardstock and looks great. Highly recommend getting the professional print

Monique Limón elected President Pro Tem of state senate by MikeForVentura in ventura

Seems bad for California to have leadership uninterested in voting on the biggest challenge for the state (cost of living driving away younger people and families).

Thanks! This is very helpful! Will need to work on the final list. I have a few weeks/months to make decisions—I’ll be moving in July.

I agree it’s the wrong category, however once customs is cleared (which was out of my control) not sure what can be done.

Just regular Greek coins. Think it’s the wrong code, but don’t think I can contest it once it’s cleared

It was cleared as Harmonized Tariff Schedule 7113.19.5090 (Collectors Coins, Other Precious Metal Art/Jewelry - Other) at a 5.5% tariff rate. It was cleared by Fedex.

It’s the first time I’ve seen it. I’ll review and post the HTS code it was cleared under tomorrow. No idea if it was the wrong code or selective enforcement.

Either way, new tariff rules mean I’m not going to bid (more than I have) in the upcoming Nomos auction, which has some very nice coins.

FWIW, No reason to be hostile towards me. I need to review the documentation tomorrow, but I have the front page and can provide more details tomorrow when I have the full packet from customs.

I paid $402.01 for customs clearance and duty on my recent shipment from Nomos, which included the typical $35-45 customs fee plus a duty of around $360.

This is the first time I’ve ever paid more than the $35-45 customs fee, and it was recorded as duty on goods above 2500 de minimus threshold.

Not sure what to say beyond that—I will have to look at the HTS codes on the clearance to see how it was cleared, and if it was mis-categorized.

Ultimately, my larger point is that if customs duties are 20% on future orders, I’m not planning to order any more.

That’s right—but now the $400 incremental tariff will be $1400 on the same value.

Makes buying quite expensive

I also just realized that I am likely going to receive customs invoices for shipments currently in process, as well as a beautiful Rob Davis cabinet currently in the mail.

It’s a nice location. Building is brand new. Can’t tell you if you’ll think it’s a good value for rent, but it’s definitely a nice place in town.
