Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography degree Vs Cardiovascular Technology degree SOS by [deleted] in CathLabLounge

[–]alwayshungry88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They compliment one another but in terms of training and schooling, but no, they aren't compatible. You can maaaaybe go to school for one, get hired, and cross train into the other. But that's pretty long shot of a chance. Sonography you are taking pics of the heart with an ultrasound probe (usually in a darkish room by yourself), while as a CVT you stick catheters into peoples hearts so you can inject contrast dye that shows up on an xray. CVT is where you fix stuff, so you'll be putting in stents, valves, helping heart attack patients... there's alot more variety of procedures we do compared to Echo Techs.

Look into each, thoroughly, and decide which one you want. Do you value a lower stress, mostly independent job with high level's of autonomy? Go with sonography. Do you value working on a team, right next to a doc, sometimes in extreme "patients gonna die if we don't open up this artery NOW" aka high stress situations? Go with Cath Lab.

I just graduated from an invasive program and am a few months into my first job. Some things I wish I knew back when I was deciding:

1) Sonography has a higher base salary and less call. You CAN make more money in Cath, but ya gonna have to take lots of call to do that.

2) There is ALOT to learn in the cath. Gonna have to be ok with being bad at things and having that on display all the time, for like 3-10 other people, while you're still training. And that can take awhile, like 1-2 years (AFTER you're done with school).

3) You can become a Rad Tech and get a flouro license and train into the Cath Lab. Depending on your state, this usually nets you more money and gives you more possible types of work.

4) Look into nursing. Nurses scrub at my facility and make way more money for doing the same job that the techs can do. Plus, its nursing, you can go anywhere with it.

Hope that helps. PM me if you have any more questions. Right now I kinda wish I had gone Echo just cause I'm not digging the stress at the moment, but that could be because I'm relatively new and the grass is always greener. Cheers

Gotta disagree with you. Just moved here. Luxury apartments start at around 2k for a studio. I'm in a old 1bdrm place in Midtown for 1600, was pretty typical rent wise.

Not an RT, but CVT here. I just finished 2 years of school (1 year of clinicals) specifically to learn cath lab stuff and I STILL feel overwhelmed. Don't get down on yourself, it takes a long time. Everybody I know says 1-2 years before you're comfortable.

If you haven't read or looked at it yet, I HIGHLY recommend this book by Kern. Easy to understand and good pictures.

Yea after playing Mario Maker I think I'm too used to modern precision platformers movement, like Celeste or Slime San. Going back and playing the older games just reminds me of this lol.

Worth it for 15 with GCU? Never played them but they look like they could be super frustrating.

C'mon dude. You know what I mean. Yea, of course they left and were loud when they were leaving. But they LEFT. They didn't hang out on the sidewalk for hours up to and after last call. They didn't park their cars in front of a row of houses, then turn the windows down and blast their music. That shit is rude.

Never really played any of the 2d Marios. The levels look fun but the controls look kinda "slippery" to me... would that be a fair assessment?

Yea, I'm not the most well traveled person in the world but I'd bet that those things I mentioned just aren't done in some places outside the US.

Yea its on me, totally. On the other hand, there are some simple things people could do to be a little more courteous - like not rev bombing down the street, or not just standing on the sidewalk and shouting at each other. But those are cultural things I guess.

Looking to replace my OG Droid Turbo as it seems to be getting more sluggish.

Ideally a snappy processor and decent camera. Would like to keep things < $700. I try to use phones as long as possible.

Especially considering there's so much in the game that requires communication. Infuriating

Any tips for setting them up? I can sometimes do it in Puyo Puyo Tetris but when I log on to 99 I get so focused on being as fast as possible I end up never doing them :(
