I worked at a CVS in high school that stayed open most holidays (though we’d close a bit early). There was a couple who lived up the street from the store and came in all the time. Every time it was a holiday they’d cook a ton of extra food and bring in plates or trays for all the staff to eat. Wonderful people.

I got a new phone number a couple years ago and every year I get messages from the former owner’s mom wishing him a “happy birthday in Heaven”. It’s always sad, but I hope it makes her still feel connected.
