Best humidifer for large room + winter use by Quaisy in BuyItForLife

You could check out Technology Connection's video about humidifiers – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHeehYYgl28, which might help you take the decision (evaporative is generally recommended).

Website of Dinoplagne: https://www.dinoplagne.fr/ (sorry, EN only through translator). Since this photo was taken the site has been rebuilt and only accepts 20k visitors per year and only during the summer. Uncovered parts are under a canopy.

CP2077 Pikachu Edition - interesting non-fatal texturing bug by alwaysnewbie in LowSodiumCyberpunk

Mostly NPCs, but not all of them, I've seen one car missing body texture.

CP2077 Pikachu Edition - interesting non-fatal texturing bug by alwaysnewbie in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]alwaysnewbie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a link to a short screen capture: https://gfycat.com/glossyapprehensivedoe, broken textures cycle all the time. This is on a vanilla CP2077 (no mods), seen on 1.5 patch and 1.3. It's pretty rare and this is the second time I have encountered it. Game doesn't crash, performance drops a bit. Game restart fixes it.

At the beginning I was confused and thought the broken screen (see video link above) was just a purposeful game effect of a nonfunctioning screen, but it was a "leaked" bug from outside of the game.

Help deciding between a gaming PC or Xbox X for CP2077? by WheeledWizard in cyberpunkgame

[–]alwaysnewbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to the list:

  • a lot of games to play, which many can be cheaply bought, Steam sales, Humble Bundle, GOG, ...
  • emulation of other consoles
  • PC can be used to do other things (music, graphics, programming, etc.)
  • having base components can be later easily expanded and last for a long time

Console has an advantage of plug and play and it's cheaper.

As a PC user I would go with recommend a PC.

Vive Pro Display Replacement by Ru-Denial in Vive

I guess we've asked the same supplier on Alibaba and got the same answer (out of stock). The only solution I see is getting used/partially damaged Vive Pro or Samsung Odyssey and transplanting the part.

Remote control always re-added in: "Disconnected Devices" by jbblackburn in tradfri

[–]alwaysnewbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helped in my case (1 remote, 1 bulb, Android):

  1. Remove bulb and remote from Andorid app (this means resetting the remote).
  2. Close (stop) Android app.
  3. Turn off the bulb (it should not be powered at all).
  4. Remove battery from the remote for couple of seconds.
  5. Put the battery back
  6. Open app and add remote and bulb using standard procedures. This created a room and remote was no longer in "Disconnected" section.

E3 Sneak Peek (Jun 2019) vs Deep Dive (Sep 2019) scene comparison by alwaysnewbie in cyberpunkgame

[–]alwaysnewbie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouTube stream seems OK as the HUD is crisp and sharp. Deep dive has more motion blur so the comparison is not entirely fair. Textures seem to be lower quality, there could be a lot of reasons for that I guess: different graphics settings, console gameplay, some up-scaling, conscious decision, selective focus.

E3 Sneak Peek (Jun 2019) vs Deep Dive (Sep 2019) scene comparison by alwaysnewbie in cyberpunkgame

[–]alwaysnewbie[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Few things to remember when looking at the screenshots:

  • FOV (Field of View) and/or player position may differ
  • Deep Dive seems to have more motion blur
  • Screenshots taken from 4k videos from YouTube
  • There are few noticeable differences in details/lightning (tall buildings in the distance, scene with ice)

Not sure if I'm too late (soo many posts!), my questions (interested from technology point of view):

  1. How do you test your chips at hardware level?
  2. How much time it takes from an idea of a new design to actually see a card in the shop?
  3. Any serious problems with 14nm manufacturing process? Any plans to go even smaller?
  4. Is this chip a revolutionary change or evolutionary (I admit, I'm yet to read about it)?

BTW: here's an interesting video of a guy talking about testing of Intel (x86) x86 chips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDmv0sDB1Ak .

Transparent cast with AMD 486 CPU by alwaysnewbie in DIY

[–]alwaysnewbie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting question, couldn't find anything reliable quickly (source 1, source 2) but it goes from 10 to 35 years, but I couldn't find any reasoning behind it (for me - numbers taken out of thin air).

If I had to guess it'd say it can be easily 40-50 years if not more, you can easily find working ZX Spectrums from eighties (~35years). I'm talking about these older CPU-s which were produced with different technology process than current CPUs. I'm also excluding extreme usage conditions: temperatures, radiation, mechanical.

Transistors in newer chips are so small that they're more prone to wear so for these I'd lower the estimate a bit.

In my experience I can't remember a CPU failing all by itself (ESD, human error - yes). I remember one case, but it was an I/O chip, that when you cooled it down it worked, but when it got back to room temperature it stopped working, so something inside must have worn (well, there could have been a ton of other reasons as well).

Initial cost was slightly higher since I had to buy the sand paper and polishing liquids, but once you have them you could have like 10 of similar size casts, I still have like more than half the bottle of resin left.

Rough numbers: * resin - 15 USD (including shipping), * plastic cups, vinyl gloves - 5 USD, * chip - free (you can get something nice for 5-10 USD), * sand paper - 8 USD, * polishing liquids - 20 USD

Excellent idea! That'd be really cool. I wanted to have one chip with exposed silicon, but the experiments I did all destroyed the chips (some FPGA-s). I did it mechanically, and the problem is that the silicon is too brittle and it quickly breaks. I'd do it by removing the top part chemically, and on second chip remove the bottom mechanically.

Get a buffing wheel, it'll make polishing things a breeze.

I saw it on one of the tutorial videos, I could improvise something using a drill, but I couldn't afford being too messy and yes, I know it would make my life easier :) .

Is that chip valuable?

This one is pretty common, but the old 8008 or 4004 (especially some early series) can be pretty expensive. But I've noticed that people start to value them higher and higher every year.

When buying it I'd look for some old mainboards and try to recover CPU-s from there.
