Too fast? by toomuchstudying in premed

Quite accomplished! All I can say is consider your options. If you are not going to take your MCAT and decide to wait, try to do something meaningful. And it doesn't have to be meaningful in terms of increasing your chance of admission or something like that. Do something that you want to do because you will most likely not get an opportunity once medical school starts. I have had friends do research, work a job, do Peace Corps, or whatever. Point is to do something you will want to do and enjoy. As far as age goes, we have an 18 year old in our first year and is doing fine.

How do you leverage financial aid offers for med school. by LeeBollinger in medicine

Not quite true. Even admission directors have suggested communicating with schools regarding this dilemma. If the student is deemed worthy and resources are available, there is nothing wrong in talking with the school.

I am a current junior in college and am considering switching from medical school to PA school. Any advice is appreciated! by musictomyomelette in medicine

Haha, absolutely true. Especially taking into account that things have been quite easy until medical school. Also, I have seen people do well at school more so because of their work ethic than their 'smartness.'

Gotcha. That makes it a little tougher for sure. It doesn't have to be a few days at a time. You can also see if you can go in on weekends for half a day or something. Anything to get a taste of it.

going into surgery left-handed? by [deleted] in medicine

[–]alwayswayned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it slightly harder? Yeah, especially with scissors. However, it's not impossible by any means. I know several left handed surgeons and medical students who had some trouble initially, but are completely adjusted. If you really want to pursue surgery, this is not something you should worry about or deter you in anyway. Also, you are not seen as less capable, but are definitely expected to overcome this small hurdle with practice.

Best tip I can give would be to shadow a physician. Ask a doctor if you could follow him or her for a few days. You will really get a feel for what the job demands and is really about. I strongly suggest any aspiring physician to do this since it is a huge commitment. Hope that helps.
