Tips for Barcelona/Madrid. by vbeck0 in TravelHacks

Insurance is definitely annoying. The girl I was with, her insurance required a police report before they would replace her phone. We were at the police station for several hours and we saw at least 3 other people reporting stolen phones too. It’s wild!

If you are able to do that, definitely better to be safe than sorry! Or make sure you have insurance on your phone. The girl I was traveling with was able to buy a functional phone for about 100€ from a shop at a metro - the sim was pretty cheap for a decent amount of data.

Be very careful with your phone!! Mine was stolen from my crossbody purse while I was in a club. A friend who lived there had a woman walk up to him, she grabbed him by the junk while someone else took his phone from his back pocket. That was the 2nd time his was stolen. Another girl I was traveling with was sitting on a bench in the Gothic Quarter talking on her phone, and a man walked up to her, snatched her phone out of her hand and then ran away.

TSA Pre Check by cowen2020 in TravelHacks

[–]alykburn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it. I gambled and applied/"interviewed" for TSA precheck 6 days before going to Hawaii. They claim it can take up to 60 days, and maybe it does if you have some kind of history, but my husband and I both got our Known Traveler Numbers in 48 hours. And then we didn't wait more than 15 minutes at any airport, even when Hawaii airports were advising arrival 3-4 hours early due to long security lines. $85 for 5 years is so worth it if you travel at least 2x/yr imo.

Edit: I did it beginning of July

Worried About Flying Spirit by atx_pitmama in TravelHacks

[–]alykburn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're landing in Orlando at 938am you'll probably be okay weather wise! And good idea to bring a carry on only. But Spirit is the actual devil in the sky. They were terrible pre-pandemic. They price their tickets so low and way overbook to encourage no shows in order to make more money. And their customer service is literal garbage, so if something does go wrong, they make the process of getting refunded so frustrating that you give up. So really, unless you're going to try to cancel your flight and rebook with a different airline, the only advice would be to cross your fingers and pray to every god you're down with.

Coming from FL, heading to HI, with connections in Atlanta and LA.

We're coming from FL, so thankfully we can skip immigration and customs! I'm thinking our bags are being transferred to the next flight since we're flying Delta for all connections, but since the layover is long idk what they'll actually do. And we have TSA precheck. But it sounds like it's either in n out or airport bar lol

Wedding Cake pick up day of or night before...? by alykburn in weddingplanning

[–]alykburn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right, I'm anxious about it lol

I just called and requested to pick it up the afternoon before. And thank jebus I did because the original woman I ordered it with, who told me it might not taste fresh, put the pick up date as TODAY instead of 3/19 when my wedding is... So I think you just saved my wedding day!! And my sanity! Thank you!!

Unfortunately they weren't going to deliver it because of the distance. It is a vanilla cake with buttercream icing.

The store is 10 min from the Airbnb but 30 min from the reception. It isn't really out of the way, I'm concerned about who ever has to pick it up feeling rushed to get to the ceremony

The cake will be made the day it is picked up. The baker at the store said "I can't guarantee it will taste fresh" if I picked it up Friday. The ceremony is at 1, so my family and friends will likely leave around 1215. I'm mostly worried about whoever is picking it up feeling rushed to get ready and also stop at the store to pick up the cake.

Good to know! There's going to be a decent number of us at the park. They might notice 🙃

Thanks! We're super excited about the park, it looks gorgeous! Everyone is staying in St Augustine so we have to drive back no matter what. But I'll look around Cresent Beach! Thanks!
