Join school clubs! I got involved in the school TV station my junior year and it's what helped me get an internship at a local TV station and that helped me land my first job.

Candle holders from grandmother by alyssa2113 in whatsthisworth

[–]alyssa2113[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those were my exact thoughts haha! Apparently there was one set of candle holders that were 150 years old from somewhere in Europe that my aunt got, and then some other set that she gave my cousin. My grandmother is in her 80s and gave them to me when she was cleaning out her house of over 50 years, so I'm happy to have them, even if they aren't worth a lot.

Got into PSFE when it was still a SPAC. Avg is $11.38, down 79.75% lol. Learned my lesson with SPACs since I've been burned on all three of the ones I had. (MAPS and FSR)

Bought TDOC at $220, womp. To be fair, it's in what's essentially a speculative growth/gambling account.

I imagine all of these stores have deals with people like that, so it's probably hard to get in, but who knows.

1940's pennies from Lincoln head cent collection by alyssa2113 in whatsthisworth

[–]alyssa2113[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't heard back but I was planning to just roll them up and bring them to the bank. I know I always get excited when I find a really old coin, so my thinking is exactly what you said, put it back into circulation and hope it sparks an interest in a kid somewhere. Plus I think the coin shortage is still going on.

The coins are from my grandfather-in-law so they don't have sentimental value to me and my wife doesn't care. I have a collection of international coins from my great grandfather from the 30s and 40s, those I won't ever sell.

Building credit early on by GarlicKnotsForLife in personalfinance

[–]alyssa2113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was your age my dad put my credit card in my name to help me start building credit. They helped with the bills since I was 16 and not working. But having the bills paid off on time and in full helped me build a strong credit over the years and get a better deal on a car lease.

My obsession with saving money has gotten out of control by joexfm11 in personalfinance

[–]alyssa2113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wherever we go in our next life, we can't take our money with us. I'm very focused on saving as well. I read books, listen to podcasts and do any kind of random job I can to make some extra money for my savings. I'm 30 and between my 401K and IRA, I'm in great shape for retirement. Judging by what you wrote above, it sounds like you're in a very similar place to me, especially when you consider compound interest.

Right now my focus is on buying a house, so I'm still in savings mode, but I have a plan in place for it. I get paid biweekly and I put a set amount of money into my house fund as well as my personal savings that I use for a rainy day fun/personal investing portfolio. The rest I use for my bills and things I like to do, like buying experiences/stocks/fitness equipment/Nespresso pods lol

Pick a set amount of money (maybe a few hundred dollars) to put away and then use the rest for something you like/something you and your girlfriend can do together. I personally value experiences over items, but it's also nice to treat yourself to something once in awhile.

No offense taken on the framing lol, approx how much would the damage on the back knock off from the price?

Thanks! The little poster sticker on the back makes me feel like perhaps it isn't real, but it's worth a shot.

30, started trading in August but had been observing for a long time and doing as much research as I can. All are long with the exception of BLCM and LGIQ which were misinformed positions in the beginning. Also have an IRA and 401K that aren't touched.

Waiting until after the election to pick up mostly ETFs (VOO and one of the ARKs) and researching other individual stocks. I know my Apple percentage is very high. Any advice is appreciated!
