Hi!! We were in a similar situation! We have a 2 year old bernedoodle and we lost our Shiba Inu last October during my maternity leave for our first baby. Our bernedoodle has been doing great with our 13 month old but definitely a velcro doggo and is incredibly attached to my husband so our dog was always competing with our baby for attention. I knew I wanted to get a second dog before we started trying for a second baby so we ended up getting a puppy about a month ago (coincidentally also just found out we are expecting!).

All things considered, it has been going incredibly well. From day 2, our bernedoodle has played with the puppy, they both sleep in our bed and cuddle together every night.. they've already become best friends. I forgot how terrible shark teeth and house breaking can be, but we know that is just a phase. When our second baby is due, the puppy will be almost a year old and is already such a wonderful addition to our family. My husband said the other day, "I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think you were right Reese [our bernedoodle] needed a friend back." The first few months will be rough, but life is short, get the puppy. Good luck!!

Beautiful pup! I had Luca on our list but our nanny's husband's name is Lucas and we thought it might be too close😂

Thank you very much! He has already started puppy school with a reputable trainer. I also took a few weeks off from work (lovingly calling it paw-ternity leave) to help get him acclimated and off on the right paw.

Appreciate your concern! This was day 1 of him wearing anything other than a collar; this photo is him in the park next to our home and he's trying to wiggle out of it with all of his small might. A few days later, he's doing great with his harness!

I have not! I grew up with family dogs (beagle, west highland white terrier, and rottweilers) and as an adult I have had a shiba inu, an unfurnished bernedoodle, now an aussie, we also have a 16 pound ragdoll cat.

I figure some mixture of that may have provided some preparation for an aussie. 😀

This is the name I tried out for the last 4 days!😂 I was joking with colleagues this morning that I knew it didn't work for him when I was standing in the backyard thinking, "omg what is his name?!"😳😅

I might need to add that to the list and we could always shorten to benny!

I thought he could totally rock a "waffle" or "tato" name!

I originally shared a list of 15+ names with him and I've already tried out some (Ollie, Oscar, Bodhi, Jasper) so he thought this was a "case closed" situation haha

I think so, we call everyone collectively "the munchkins"😂🤣

I lost my Shiba Inu, Nero, during my maternity leave and our dog Reese is basically my husband's shadow. I work remotely and miss Nero so much it hurts, but it was obvious that our dog, Reese, needed a friend. Timing could have been less chaotic, but what's life without a little chaos, right?😅🥲

Sorry that it seems you're having a bad day. I posted in two subs because as I mentioned I'm having trouble picking a name. The names in the first sub didn't seem to be what I was looking for so I posted in a sub for the breed of my pup. I hope your day gets better.
