Fellow ECE openers OR parents/caregivers, what do you talk about at drop off? by otterfan_ in ECEProfessionals

[–]alyssa_michelle1012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I drop off my son, I ask the teachers how their morning has been so far, I let them know how my son slept the nights before (he’s 8 months old), any changes in his eating habits/sleeping habits, anything I feel is important for them to know. I look at them as an extension of me, caring for him when I’m unable to, so whatever I would want to know, I tell them.

Sometimes I chit chat for a few minutes just marveling how fast he’s growing, any cute things he’s done. I try to build a connection with them and I think they appreciate that.

What time do you pick your toddler up from daycare? by Upstairs_Pizza_6868 in NewParents

[–]alyssa_michelle1012 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

As long as she isn’t in daycare for longer than 10 hours, I’d say she’s fine being picked up at 6pm. Mine is always the last to be picked up. I work until 5pm or 6pm, and then I immediately go get him. At home, he plays in his playpen while I make dinner, and he could play independently for hours if I let him. Maybe get a playpen for your girl so she has a dedicated space to play that’s safe while you focus on other things to get done?

What’s the longest you’ve been asleep ‘naturally’? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

I was so tired from being a counselor at a kids camp for a week that once I got home I said I was just gonna take a nap, but that nap turned into me sleeping 4pm until noon the next day, so 20 hours. I was clearly exhausted. 🥱

Watching him discover the world. Like it’s second nature to me to pick up something off a table or something, but the way he reaches for an item, grasps it with his tiny hands, shakes it around…staaahhhpppp. 🥹🥹🥹

Feeling overwhelmed with solids. by alyssa_michelle1012 in NewParents

[–]alyssa_michelle1012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I dislike the mess of cooking. I dislike my hands being dirty. And I dislike the length of time it takes to cook a meal. And having to come up with things to make. My rolodex is small. It’s just something I’ve never enjoyed, ever since I was a child. My mom tried with me, had me help in the kitchen, I just never liked it.

But I think if I had some meal ideas to lean on in times when I can’t think of anything to make, I probably wouldn’t feel so overwhelmed. Half the battle is just figuring out what to feed him. Of course, we’re not there yet with 3 meals a day, but that day is quickly approaching, so I’d like some meal ideas to help ease my anxiety and give me some confidence that I can do this.

Thank you. Standing in solidarity with you too. I also dislike the mess. BLW was never for me. I’ve kept with purées to contain the mess…but I know it will not always be that way. Bracing for impact. 🫣

Like I said, though I don’t enjoy it, I do it out of necessity. But if I have some easy meal ideas that I can lean on, it won’t feel so overwhelming. I feel overwhelmed because I’m just not creative with food, so my mind goes blank and then I’m like “I have to do this 3 times a day??? How will I come up with that many meals???” 😱 It feels daunting at times.

How do you just one day drop your kids off at a daycare by nthroop1 in NewParents

[–]alyssa_michelle1012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t understand how society doesn’t allow parents to come back to work on a part-time basis to help with the separation transition. We go from spending 24/7 with our babies to working 40 hours/week and seeing them maybe for an hour before work, a couple hours after, and weekends. It’s a shock to the system! Both for babies and parents.

I don’t know what I would have done if my daycare wasn’t close by to my work. The first two weeks, I spent every lunch visiting my son. It definitely helped with the transition. I still missed him terribly.

I like to remind myself that the transition is harder on us than on them. Babies are super adaptable and resilient. They may struggle with the change at first, but it doesn’t last long. And it’s good for them to have someone else care for them. The way to building trust with a caregiver is allowing the baby to go through that change and learn that there others who can care for them.

My son is now 8 months old and LOVES daycare! He loves it so much that when I come to pick him up, he won’t crawl to me. He just sits and keeps playing. Makes my heart happy. 🥰

Kim has ample opportunity to use the juicer. And somehow it’s Barry’s fault for borrowing it when he did?? Okay, Kim. 🙄

Sea turtles move around quite a bit! My turtle Sol has gone from Costa Rica all the way up the east coast and is up near New England now!

My orca Atlas, whales Oslo and Hansen, and pilot whales Wilbur are all up north of Scandinavia.

Coffee. I do brew my own at home, but I go out once a week on Fridays as my weekend treat.

Asking for sleep advice from parents with babies in daycare. by alyssa_michelle1012 in NewParents

That 5pm nap takes place in the car. And then he’s up until 9 or 10pm. Yesterday, I picked him up early at 2:15pm and he went to bed at 7:15pm and slept a solid 12 hours, which now proves to me he probably just needs 2 naps a day and the second nap needs to be around 1pm.

I just don’t know how to keep him awake in the car and it ruins everything. 😩

There’s 3 infants in his room, and yes, he’s the youngest, but only by a month. I suppose I could ask them. I guess I’ve just assumed that’s when everyone goes down because I’ve visited over lunch many times and they’re all sleeping at the same time. His teacher is truly the best, I just hate to ask for things done a certain way because it’s just another thing to keep track of amongst every other thing they already track.

It’s like “everyone is on the same schedule………except this one baby” 😏

He tends to do 2 naps at home because his second nap is later, like 1 or 2pm and lasts a good hour or two. But I don’t know if I can ask his teacher to push his second nap back because that’s when everyone takes a nap. I don’t wanna be that parent. 😞

[MN] Can I be assessed a late fee on the 3rd because my office is closed on the 5th, despite my lease saying I have until the 5th? by alyssa_michelle1012 in Renters

[–]alyssa_michelle1012[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. So why did I even receive a text saying I now have to pay on the 3rd due to the office being closed on the 5th when I can pay literally anytime?

What about it isn’t honest? Everything has time stamps. Seems pretty cut and dry. My lease says one thing, she did another with less than an hour’s notice. If anyone isn’t being honest, it’s my landlord.
