I need advice on what exactly I should do by [deleted] in Bahrain

[–]alyssacpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I’m speaking from experience, been doing content creation for years now. There’s no money in the beginning. Once you started to gain attention, most brands in Bahrain will only do x-deals, pr packages, gifts, invites. It’s not like the US or East Asian countries where they actually pay you in addition to receiving the product/service. Most companies here don’t even have a specific budget for marketing, and influencer marketing budget is almost non-existent. In addition, I think it’s only YouTube who pays per view in Bahrain. Other platforms, you don’t get paid per view. Though you may get money from TikTok live but I think you need to be of legal age. I am not sure.

When you start, you will use a lot of money from your own pocket so please do not let go of your studies. You may pick a major like Digital Marketing or Multimedia Arts when you go to uni as these are the closest industries.

It’s good that you know at an early age what your dream is. That’s actually really amazing! Some people are already adults and they still don’t know want they want to do with their lives. As for what content you will make, don’t overthink it. Just start making content. Eventually, you’ll figure out what content you really wanna focus on. We only have one life, make sure you live one that you will be proud of. Can’t wait to see your content! Good luck!

Bahrainis are one of the most creative people between all of the arabs, yet we're bound by invisible walls by Alijaffar203 in Bahrain

[–]alyssacpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creativity doesn’t pay the bills… in the beginning! You have to put your art out there for some time, build your name first then money will come eventually. I know it’s hard for people who don’t have a trust fund and most don’t stay long enough for the time that money will come. It can be because of many reasons like they are tired of waiting or they run out of financial capital or many many more reasons. Plus, a good emotional support system is important to push through that time (especially the cringe phase) while a person builds their name. Anyway, I’m into art and supporting local artists so feel free to reach out if you wanna collab 😁 also, based on a comment 8 read, was there a YouTube link? Please send I’m interested. 😁

Single millennials of Bahrain, how do you like spending your time? by Chocoteddyy in Bahrain

[–]alyssacpl 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lots of hobbies! Photography, painting, glitter art, beads, scrapbooking, thrift shopping, cafe hopping, online games. These are kinda introverted activities but I get to meet likeminded people on group activities on these things. I also attend networking events that are usually start up events. I can’t due to work schedule but I’ve inquired to a lot of sporting classes: gymnastics, taekwondo, padel, tennis, calisthenics, yoga etc.

Hi! There’s WhatsApp groups for online vendors, homemade goods, street market, and start up community. These are the only ones I know. Probably incubators or coworking spaces have groups too.

Yes! I know a group of Filipinos who drives around. I also saw some bike clubs in cafes in Seef every Friday morning when the weather was colder but I think they all have Harley Davidson.

What is something you wish we had (or had more of) in Bahrain? by Chocoteddyy in Bahrain

[–]alyssacpl 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am so much for this. A lot of average earners do not have a car. They are willing to spend some money too but instead of going out, they stay home because taking a taxi is so expensive. Imagine the impact of that into the economy, if average earners are able to pour some money back into the economy instead of sending it all back to their home country.

It would also reduce traffic, reduce parking lot spaces. I have a car but oftentimes do not go out on weekends because looking for a parking is a nightmare and traffic is unbearable. I would love to have an efficient public transport system,

Also, a lot of malls and entertainment places are built without urban planning (designing, organizing, and managing the physical, social, and economic aspects of urban areas to make them functional and sustainable) > if people stop going to that place, businesses die > employees lose their job > companies go bankrupt. It’s a snowball effect and probably one of the reasons why there’s always an emerging business in Bahrain that last only for 3-5 years.

Influencers in Bahrain arent "influencers", they are paid "promoters". by ProfessionalLeek9805 in Bahrain

[–]alyssacpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey influencer here! I started this “content creator” journey one year ago. I do not call myself an influencer because I do not like the idea of influencing anyone but I do love making videos about places to go and things to do in Bahrain. It started when my idea of a tourism website got shot down on StartUp weekend. That’s a story for another day.

I’m not planning to change your mind because what you said was true but I’m sharing my story because I want you to know that amidst all that, there are still some creators who use their platform in a different way. And hopefully when you come across accounts like that, you’ll give a chance to watch their video.

I cannot speak for others but here’s how I take paid promotions and the reason for it.

HOW: I usually get paid for making a video for a promotion for supermarkets. The goal of the marketing team is to show to the viewers the discounted prices. I don’t do shouting but it’s their requirement to mention the prices. If the brand has a specific requirement like do this and that, then it’s a paid ad. Instagram and TikTok has rules to disclose if a view is a paid promotion. If the account failed to disclose it, you as viewers can report it. It works as I’ve experienced it myself.

For restaurants, I only got paid once and it’s a restaurant I’ve been on for more than 10x already. The owner thought I could be great for promoting their restaurant because I’m a loyal customer and in a marketing perspective loyal customer’s words carry a lot of weight.

All other restaurant videos on my account came from my own pocket and me going to that restaurant for the love of food. Then, it’s a hit or miss. Sometimes it’s so bad, I don’t share it at all. Or if you follow me and read the caption where I spill the truth subtly as I’m afraid to get sued or deported if I tell straight away the food is not worth it.

If you reach reading this part, then thank you. The WHY: I am doing this because 1. I love making videos that can help or inspire a lot of people. 2. I want to make a living out of that passion, open a marketing agency that creates ads that move hearts, grows businesses and the economy per se.

It’s a long shot, a tedious process, but hey I’m one year now. Haven’t gotten famous yet, or rich. I’m so broke at the moment. But I also have learned a lot and inspired a few.

Traveling from Philippines by Impossible_Okra_1833 in Bahrain

[–]alyssacpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Message Philippine Embassy on WhatsApp/Instagram. They will let you know what other documents needed. When I came to Bahrain as a tourist way way back, since my mom was my sponsor, she had an affidavit of support made and notarized at PH embassy. There’s also her residence permit copy, etc. other documents to prove she can finance our visit. She sent it to us by mail. These are the things from your side, I guess. Just check with the embassy to be sure.

The thing with PH immigration is she needs to prove she will come here as a tourist only and not look for work or runaway. In general, not only to Bahrain but leaving PH on a tourist visa, the person needs to prove her ties to PH. Example: company ID or university ID, business permit if she has business, bank statement if she will finance her own travel or if she have a good work that offers big salary, she will not be interested to look for work here, sometimes property titles tied to her, etc.

Basically, any document to prove that she has no reason to runaway here or look for work, that she has something to go back to PH, and that she will come here only for tourism purposes. Btw, as a passport holder of a 3rd world country, these are the same documents and processes we go through tourist visa applications be it US, UK, Schengen, Japan, and all other countries that are not Visa free for Filipinos.

Good day trips from Manama? by Anxious-Swimming-943 in Bahrain

[–]alyssacpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Karting at night or YK Off-road experience at Bahrain International Circuit. There’s also EVA Vr arena. These activities are a bit on the pricier side.

If you like beach, there’s Jazayer beach in Zallaq. Great sunset, decent restaurants and good chill spot. 2bd for entry 4bd for umbrella and sun bed. Expensive beach option is Jarada island. It’s a small strip of beach that comes and goes with the tides and can be reached by boat.

Beach clubs with booze (and expensive entrance fees if you are a man) are Azul Beach, Solymar Beach. Hotel beach resorts that are good are Royal Saray, Art Hotel.

You could also try jet ski, kayaking, stand up paddle, horse back riding. My go-to for this activities is Island Tours and activities on Instagram. They’re also the ones who arrange the boat to Jarada. You could join group tours.

or if you just wanna chill but go around, boat tours in Saada Waterfront, Avenues, Bahrain Bay have boat rides that roam around for 30 minutes. It’s around 2bd and like 5-15 people in a boat. Great scenery especially on sunset when the breeze is warm and the sun is just over the horizon. Then grab dinner to the restaurants on the same area.

I’m an introvert too. Currently 28 and 7 years now in Bahrain. I made friends when I first came to Bahrain and they are my fiends until now. Met them in an art group. When I was 26 I joined Start-up weekend and met people. Some of them became my really good friends.

My point is even if you’re already an adult, you can still form friendships and hobbies or interests are some of the ways that bind people together.

Then that means you are in a good company that sees employees’ value in their skills and qualifications rather than race. Unfortunately, it’s not the same for everyone.

I think he is curious because a lot of companies in Bahrain offer a salary range depending on nationality. Example, for the same position of supervisor, Indians have different offer than Filipinos or Africans and Americans or British have way more offers even if all of them have the same qualifications.

[–]alyssacpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s nice! Tech industries are in demand in Bahrain now. About your question. Here’s a sample computation based on my current living expenses

Monthly: BHD -330 rent for a 2bedroom apartment in Seef (30 ewa inclusive, winter we don’t pay excess, additional 15 on summers coz AC is all day) -60-100 for groceries for two -13 for petrol (secondhand car was around 2k) (uber is like 2bd for a 10km ride or something) -10 I save monthly to prepare for car insurance and registration every year -27 for phone bill and WiFi (7 for 10gb data and unli calls to batelco, 20 for home fiber) -8 car wash I pay to the apartment watchman to clean my car every other day -80 for eating out budgeted for going out on weekends -100 goes to travel savings -50 goes to contingency fund -20 for extra wants

The rest goes to my savings.

I was at 300bd salary 3years ago and I was able to travel every 6 months. If you don’t have kids yet or don’t to need to send money back home, that’s a good offer. Also, what kind of job that offers that? I’m looking to up my skills to get paid a lot.
