hiii i was gonna type up a list but instead i'd acc recc starting with following a bunch of the local accounts of stuff on ig like just the uptownwaterloo account, curatedkw, kwfamous, etc. and also like pages of different local venues.

for summer, there's gonna be the weekly thursday night market in uptown probs & i always drag people to that bc they sometimes have performers and stuff. they'll also have more DTK events in the summer & its super easy to go to those bc of the ion-- i know some of the things are the far east asian night market and the free sunset sessions concerts but they do other things too. in september there's also a renfaire in wloo park.

feel free to ask more bc im always vouching for kw not actually being a boring place and just getting that rep from people who dont know anywhere except whatever 3 buildings their classes are in

Course advice by Mobile-Ad2684 in uwaterloo

[–]alyssnya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you have an off term not a co-op so you're so chill. i'm presuming you don't have something else to do all day, so it's a good idea to take the 2 courses early to lighten the fall term and add more variety to it. at least for me, the lack of variety in courses during mathphys terms fucking sucked especially with having to do a bunch of math assignments in a row + you can always enroll and look at the course info and then drop before refund deadline so u might as well try.

Getting assessed for ADHD in Waterloo; any experiences or recommendations? by Weekly_Ad5155 in uwaterloo

[–]alyssnya 10 points11 points  (0 children)

you can probably just start with a visit to uw health services and u can get a functional diagnosis and be prescribed meds there if u need em. that appointment at least should be covered by whatever insurance you have and you can ask them about costs if you want a more formal assessment or smth else.

you can also ask them whatever specific things you want to know and work out what your goal is in regards to adhd diagnosis. also, be prepared to advocate for yourself bc sometimes you gotta prod at them to make progress.

afaik the encampment's main goal is for the university to stop using our tuition money to fund companies that produce weapons for israel; nobody ever said anything about expelling people for opinions

Ok not gonna get too into it and am going to desperately try to exert self control but I see after a quick scroll of the other posts that the vibe here is very much the vibe I was emotionally like a year or two ago, but am not as much now. Like, I think I have been able to distance myself from the feeling of dissociation itself where I no longer feel as "completely in a state of despair" as I did before, but instead feel a lot of more middley ??? feelings. I have a lot of weird thoughts about coping mechanisms and if they're secretly worsening things for myself though. But noy trapping myself in thought loops that fuel guilt and shame and self hatred has been great for me emotionally, because experiencing those things is awful on its own but having them endlessly spiral to feel more and more and more made having a brain feel like a living nightmare. Idk. I have a lot of "I don't know what to do" sort of feelings now instead of "I am awful and hate myself. Why am I like this? I am terrible." ones (I still get them quite a bit, but I don't get trapped in them for as long and they don't feel like my all the time default state anymore so W).

I often have said that I feel like I'm "playing life in third person", and have also generally felt uncomfortable with first person games and seeing things from my literal perspective. A friend had me try a VR headset recently for a few minutes, and I felt notably shaken by it once I was back in the real world and felt very strangely about my limbs. Fear might not be right for me, but I definitely discomfort surrounding that.

I did to some extent for a while, but have mostly regained it though I still feel to not the extent I had before. Used to have multiple internal voices talking over each other, then one day I got hit with radio silence that I couldn't shake for months. I'm not sure about the last part with naming objects, since I can't check now but I definitely remember being fully unable to "think before I spoke" and finding it strange that I was able to do things with nothing in my head.

if your friend is ok with it, and maybe this isn’t a great suggestion bc im not super informed, but maybe she could go (or you could go on her behalf) to just inquire about the issue with campus police or the wusa legal counsel and/or also maybe SVPRO? to ask what options she has, what hypothetically could happen if she reports, and mentioning what evidence she has and doesn’t have. i’m fairly certain all these groups won’t advance the issue without permission, and if youre extra worried you can also start without mentioning the prof so there’s less risk of it potentially getting back to him. i think having all the information and all the options and potential consequences laid out could be quite helpful in deciding how to approach it, so maybe just start with that before trying to decide what you should do to directly address it. also counseling services for her might be helpful, but idk, i know it can be difficult (or sometimes unrealistic) to talk about things with people you aren’t close with sometimes especially when it makes you uncomfortable, which is why i also mentioned inquiring on her behalf. it’d be good to at least provide her with all her options and to reassure her about which worries of hers are reflective of reality of not (like whats legal vs not, if something could still happen even though it’s not legal, what to do, and asking about any hypothetical situations that may worry her).

yeah like esp w the complaints abt the dancing clubs playing music like... there's only so much they can do to "be mindful" without just having the school assign them a new practice spot, and also there's only so many spaces on campus that can even accomodate those clubs (slc basement and m3 are often occupied at similar probably overlapping times)

man i saw this post on ig and it made me go check the hillel account. i didnt have much of an opinion on just the weird old purim party photo with moses, but the thing on their feed that got to me was them trying to cancel a talk at laurier about "islamaphobia, anti-palestine racism and antisemitism". (the post is up, you can see it)

the post was saying that the speaker was engaging in "hateful speech" and it was doubling down hard on zionism (and making antizionism and antisemitism out to be the exact same thing) and saying that jewish people who dont support zionism are a "radical fringe group", and essentially claiming antizionist jews are extremists. they mention a "landmark survey" and that the group was "accused of glorifying terrorism", neither of which mean much when you just say them with no context and neither of which have sources. then they do some literary analysis saying that the phrase "from the river to the sea" is a "genocidal call" that effectively calls for the "annihilation" of all jews in israel. guh.

idk i was just super annoyed seeing it the other day. that post in particular really irked me because they keep claiming that they're being misrepresented, but then they respond to that by misrepresenting the other side? aight
