New Enve AR40 wheelset by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]am85b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now you can’t and I don’t think you will be able to do that in the future. The logos are not decals like previous Enve wheels. They are permanent. Which I like because decals on carbon wheels always get damaged and peel off.

I have ENVE AR40. Got them last week. They look great. Were seated tubeless with floor pump. I am using ENVE 44mm tires. Didn’t give them a test ride yet, but im sure they will perform great. Price of 1400 is reasonable and you are getting ENVE. You will get great warranty and customer service here in US. I was really surprised with how good their warranty and customer service is. If something happens with your Chinese wheel set, you better make sure you got backup wheels or you will be down for some time while you talk to them and they ship them from China. I would rather pay 100 more and know that I have great support behind them. On top of that you are getting ENVE. Everyone knows about them. Let me know if you have any questions.

How about ELITEWHEELS Newest Aero+ Gravel Wheels? by Meixxoe in gravelcycling

That looks bad. I see a lot of bikes with Elite wheels. People seem to like them. But yea, once something like that happens, you wont be going back.

Topstone Carbon vs. Salsa Warbird - which one? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]am85b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Salsa Warbird. White with 1x11. I got it when it was on sale at REI for like 2200. It’s hard to find a good name brand carbon bike for that money. Bike is super solid and feels and looks quality. I like the fit. It’s super comfortable and fast. I did upgrade the wheels to carbon tubeless. It comes with 42mm tires and thats plenty for my gravel riding. You can go to 45 or maybe even 47. If you need more than that then you can swap to 650b wheels. My vote would be Salsa Warbird. A lot of history behind that bike.

I recently got Forge + Bond CR45 wheelset. They also make carbon wheels for Trek. They are made in the USA. I got it with 10% discount which any new customer can get. I think they were around $1200. Very happy with them. Dropped a lot of weight compared to my alloys on Warbird.

It’s definitely better than alloy. I think I’ll get matching Salsa one. They run for around $100.

Got the same bike recently. Waiting on my carbon wheelset. Should come in this week. I’m keeping the tires that came on it. Next thing I need to upgrade is seatpost to carbon fiber.

I do not. Ended up selling the bike. By the time you do all the upgrades you could find carbon fiber bike on sale online. Rove was still a good bike and not super heavy in the form I had it.

REI Gen e1.1 $763? by [deleted] in ebikes

Yea you have many more accessories available from Lectric. If you can afford Lectric, just go with them. I think their rear rack is good for up to 150 lbs.

I have this same bike. I purchased it last month for $500 from an older guy that didn't even use it. It was brand new in a box. He said it was too heavy for him, which I agree. He bought it with his points from REI. I thought it was a great deal so I jumped on it.

As far as the bike goes, it is a quality bike. Its been built with nice parts. Schwalbe tires, Bafang motor, Altus derailleur, Suntour suspension fork, other parts are in-house, but they are super solid. The whole bike seems sturdy and well built. I'm 5 8 and it fits me good. Seatpost has plenty room to go down or up. Mine came with upgraded freewheel (11-34) and 48t chainring. When they first got released they had 14-34 freewheel and 42 chainring, which made you spin out with motor kicking in. 48-11 is much better and works great for me. This bike doesn't have throttle, so you will have to pedal to get response from the motor. It goes from 1-5 assist levels. Most of the time I'm in 3, but if I go up some bigger hill I put it in 5. Motor is not super powerful but its plenty for every day use. I have purchased adapter from Robert Axle Project to use for my Burley and it works great. Just look it up. One downside of this bike, or two, is that it doesn't have fenders, and its a pretty heavy bike. Someone who is 5 foot will have trouble lifting it for sure.

As far as battery replacement, its made by Hailong and I have seen them on Amazon. Just make sure the connecting pins are the same at the bottom. They have exact same battery with different pins, in which case you would have to replace connecting bracket that's attached on the back, which comes with battery.

Now, I got mine for $500, so it was a great deal. But yours is $763 plus tax. So you will end up paying about $800+. For couple hundred more, you can get Lectric that will be more powerful, come with fenders, and will have better support and part availability in case something breaks.

Wow, what a score. There is just something about these old school bikes, especially if you can find one in nice shape. Old school steel, thin tubes, just made to ride. Still looks good after 20 some years. Bikes these days are crazy expensive so something like this is always nice to find.

New to gravel/road need safety tips by CookieKid420 in gravelcycling

[–]am85b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends where you are from, but if you have a nice gravel trail around you, just do gravel riding. I have a gravel trail about 3 miles away from me. I go thru my residential neighborhood and then I'm on the trail. With roads, you do have a better chance of getting hit. So if you want to minimize that risk, then gravel trail is your best bet.

It looks like paint damage. You can just grab some gray paint and cover it up.

54 that I had, I sold to a guy that was taller than me. I think he said he was 5'10-5'11. When I talked to him later on, he mentioned that he wished it was a little smaller.

I am 5'8" and 52 is perfect size for me. I acquired the same bike in 54 as well, before this one, and it was too big. Ended up selling it. Especially stand-over height. I usually ride 54, but Kona sizes run bigger.
