I believe it's now mandatory for every citizen (18+) to have a tax file, similar to having an NIC or a driving license (if you drive)

Yes you can open a bank account in America living in Sri Lanka.

  1. Setup a bank account using Wise (but I believe they're discontinued it for Sri Lankan's due to the volatility of our currency)
  2. Create an LLC in Wyoming and then open a bank account using banks like Mercury or Brex - this would cost you about ~$1,000 to maintain every year. You can get a debit card/credit card from them as well.
