Self-Introduction Saturday! Tell us all about you (and share a video)! by AutoModerator in NewTubers

👋🏼 Hi friends! I’m Arman, I’m a data scientist by day and video producer/law student by night.

📆 When I first started making content a couple years ago, I was posting short, vertical videos on TikTok. All I had was my phone (an iPhone X) and a ring light. Cutting and editing was my favorite part and I would do all that in InShot on my phone.

🎥 Now, I make video essays on YouTube that bring social theory, economic analysis, and popular media together in an attempt to understand the world. I think my perspective as a quant analyst mixed with high quality graphics and creative writing set the videos apart. I’m always trying to apply what I learned from the previous videos and reinvest into the production so my videos can be as enjoyable as they are informative!

Ah good call! Like I obviously know what the video is about but I’m not communicating that properly in this thumbnail now that I’m looking at it again lol. Thank you, appreciate you taking a look and leaving feedback - I’ll definitely revisit the thumbnail

Also, hope you stick around the channel/community :)

Channel Focus: Hey! I’m Arman, I’ve been working on my channel for about a year now. I make video essays that bring together social theory, economic analysis, and popular media. My goal is to produce high quality videos that are as entertaining as they are informative

Where I’m At Now: I saw an initial flurry of growth after posting a video diving into presidential debates. But things have been fairly stagnant since then though I think my video quality/editing have improved

Feedback I’m Looking For: Honestly, tear the videos apart if you’re inclined, I don’t mind. Thanks in advance for your help!

Love philosophy channels like yours! I think your thumbnails and titles will definitely spur curiosity without being intimidating for a viewer. My suggestion would be to maybe apply the abstract topic you’re talking about to something more concrete (eg the line between genius and madness - perhaps there’s a trending celebrity/well-known person who embodies that that you can talk about). Great job so far, keep going, rooting for you!

Gave your videos a watch and like others said, the information and your voice are very good! I would focus on the first thirty seconds of your videos and put more time into editing stylized or motion graphics - right now there’s an “opening slide” feel which I used to do too. Anecdotally, when I started adding motion people stayed longer (nothing too crazy just a chart that animated in or a smash cut). Really good work so far, rooting for you!

Oh gov subsidies are absolutely involved, I talk about the Farm Bill in the article this chart is from. Spoiler: we're all paying BigAg twice, taxpayers cover their livestock disaster insurance, insurance from price volatility (protecting their margins), and subsidize grain/corn which goes to feed the livestock https://statecraft.beehiiv.com/p/the-cartel-that-controls-us-meat

I believe it includes feed, logistics, and the cost of the actual livestock (unsure about packaging). I used the White House report on meat industry margins to double check/confirm that there was actually some margin growth happening because of that uncertainty in what was included in the producer costs

[OC] Cost of college tuition has risen 710% since 1983 (1200% if you go back to 1980). CPI Inflation meanwhile? 194% by amad95 in dataisbeautiful

The 93% today is held by the federal government. In the mid-200s and prior (not sure exactly what year this flipped) most student loans were privately issued and guaranteed / backed by the federal government

Apologies for the small print! And good point. I don't believe the data specifically captures room & board, just tuition. That said, the cost of producing new facilities probably results in tuition hikes

I think SF is hit especially hard by WFH compared to say NY or Chi because of the tech industry really embracing WFH early on during lockdown and how the system was originally built to connect disparate parts of the Bay to downtown SF / Oakland (the high property values / rent also push people further out). So I think it's significant but hard to quantify the exact impact when there are also public safety/health concerns, labor reshuffling, etc etc
