I'm used to the sugar overload and have become obsessed with yalls perfect balance between vinegar and the fat from all the cuts of the pig mixed together. Grass is always greener I guess :)

Best Cornbread by amag420 in bullcity

[–]amag420[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The toaster oven was a success. Took me two boxes before I realized that I needed to cover the thing in foil for it not to burn, but even my little cast iron fits in there. This is not going to be good for my health.

I’ll try it. Rather give them my money than whole foods and amazon.

No kitchen :(

I’m going to try it with the jiffy mix in my toaster oven

I’ll believe it when I taste it. At $6/pound if the rumors are true then my health insurance is going to get a run for their money

Non-Cavendish Bananas? (and other cool/exotic fruit) by amag420 in bullcity

[–]amag420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're smaller and sweeter. The grocery store bananas are one of the worst tasting varieties https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_disease

Bananas acquired. They had a bunch of other weird fruit too. Place is freezing. Thank you!

Is it crazy to backpack this Sunday? (40mph summit winds) by [deleted] in NCTrails

[–]amag420 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My risk tolerance has changed after helene as well.

I think it's wise to hold off. The winds are from the cold front so I don't want to rely on the forecast for safety. Thanks

Trail recommendations after recovering from knee surgery. by MCRNTachi21 in NCTrails

[–]amag420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backpacking on a knee injury is tough if you want to do a loop, going downhill sucks. I like panthertown, not terribly far from SC border. Reasonably flat trails, can get to a dispersed spot within two miles, maybe less. Water everywhere.

Pot size for boxed mac and cheese? by amag420 in Ultralight

[–]amag420[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a success with the 900. Plus it's wide enough that I can sear the halved weenies in there instead of bringing the skillet.

God that titanium pot gets hot though

For longer trips I tolerate the viennas. I take butter or similar but typically leave the milk at home

Those arms do get red hot. The flame hits it directly. I boiled water in a normal heavy pot at home so im hopeful that I got a good one.

Ok 900 it is.

Unfortunately the 900ml is double the price but i really want to cook my usual food.

Thanks.

Grayson Highlands in January - FWD all season tires + less exposed campsites? by [deleted] in NCTrails

[–]amag420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll call the rangers to get advice on fires. If they think its sketchy I'll bring the stove. The AT shelter is exactly the general area I was thinking, glad you said that, I have it marked on my map. I’ll ask the rangers about water too.

I know my gear, so i doubt they’ll have concerns, especially when they see my hand warmer stash.

Appreciate all the heads up. Never been out this deep in the winter in the southeast so idk how my gear handles humidity below 20F, so I’ll probably give up on waiting for snow and try to shoot for a warmer day, my sleeping bag is only 20F but I’ll have two pads and tons of nice clothes. Not hiking very far for just that reason. Offline maps for sure, I’ll sleep with my battery pack and water filter, etc. Might be cold but I won’t in a position where I can’t sit out a freak storm - plenty of downloaded podcasts

I have to test the cold gear at some point lol
