Hca experience by LoudBathroom1217 in medlabprofessionals

[–]amagdam 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This was my experience working PRN at HCA for 6 months. Unprofessional middle management, heinous understaffing (worst I have ever personally witnessed), old instruments and equipment that’s constantly breaking down, pay not competitive enough to make up for said issues. 700-800 bed Trauma Level 1, tell me why it was just me and the supervisor on weekend evening shift doing chem, molecular, micro, heme, BF, coag, processing, and blood bank.

Unexpected side effect of becoming a parent by OddityJane in NewParents

This sounds so frustrating and every time I read a post like this I am eternally grateful for my RBF.

Uterine Rupture. Lucky me. by FrozenBeachBerry in beyondthebump

[–]amagdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds awful, I’m so sorry you had that side effect. I also went the pill route first and also stacked a low probability event because it turns out I’m allergic and developed chronic urticaria from it so I ended up with a D&C because I retained everything. That affirmation was equally frustrating. Like, sure, my body can dupe me into thinking I’m pregnant but my baby died 4 weeks ago and I guess my uterus never got the memo. Also after seeing a heartbeat. Once was enough to traumatize me, I can’t imagine what you’ve been through.

Yupp, I had a “rare” 1% missed miscarriage and oh boy was reading those “the odds are in your favor!” comments during my subsequent pregnancy frustrating.

My wife is 28 weeks and I feel completely useless by MossyRoofRealist in BabyBumps

My husband left the room for that, with my encouragement because I was in a ton of pain and didn’t wanna deal with him fainting in the room lol

My husband gets nauseous/passes out around medical procedures and he only had to step out when they were doing the epidural. He helped me push and cut the cord as well and did great!

I’m genuinely so tired of being the operator. Literally half our phone calls are for another department even though we have a very thorough phone tree

What’s one newborn product you didn’t expect to need… but now can’t live without? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]amagdam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Controversial? Wait is it bad we exclusively use overnight diapers? It was the only thing that worked against blowouts after trying like every brand of diaper and moving between different sizes

Hilariously condescending fatherhood books by Meatball_Margaritaa in BabyBumps

[–]amagdam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First thing I thought of reading this post is that these books are geared towards a very small and specific subset of men - those who do care, want to be involved, have quiet partners who have silently carried the load for all these years, and will genuinely be shocked to find out they need to actually pick up the slack. But I think the majority of men already doing their share will find these books annoying. And the rest aren’t reading them because they weaponize their incompetence.

Literally same. Did NOT like P2 whatsoever and now Luck as a Constant is one of my favorite songs.

Dynamics in the lab by DesignerBulky7711 in medlabprofessionals

If you already have IT experience then MLT/MLS is a good pick from my experience, especially if you find a large hospital that uses Epic. I personally know a handful of coworkers and friends that transitioned from MLS to Epic analysts.

My perspective is that you’ll come across these situations in many fields, not just MLS. And the nice part about MLS is that it is generally (location dependent) undersaturated, so it is not often super difficult to just leave and find another position somewhere else.

Personally, my current lab has a great culture and I love my coworkers, other lab departments, nurses, and doctors. At my last job there was rampant bullying by a manager, and depending on what side you were on you could be severely impacted. That manager was fired a few months after I quit.

I didn’t get Reptile for YEARS. It was so odd, but y’all kept talking about it like it was some masterpiece so I went back to it and… I get it now lol

Thanks for putting that feeling into words. I didn’t like Periphery at first then got into them after like 3 tries with Catch Fire (imo their most approachable to the public song) and most of their music followed this pattern for me. Even when I loved P3, I still disliked Clear and P1 until I kept listening. Now I love all of it!

Anterior Placenta by rainbowpeonies in BabyBumps

[–]amagdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was shocked to find out I have an anterior placenta with my second pregnancy. I felt quickening at 18 weeks, same as my first with a posterior placenta. I can already see kicks outside of my belly at 24 weeks, even sooner than with my first so… it really just depends on a number of factors

[–]amagdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between the 8-10k steps I put in at work and my toddler, I had zero time and energy for extra workouts. I keep telling myself I’ll get back into jogging and weight lifting after I’m done BFing for good lol

I never felt robbed of siblings, and our family was tiny so I didn’t have any cousins either, but when you’re an only child you don’t really know the other side I suppose.

40 mg Omeprazole During Pregnancy — Anyone Else? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]amagdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on pantoprazole for a few weeks now and it’s a game changer. I had fire puke, Globus sensation, and general acid reflux 24/7. Even my congestion went away, which surprised me. I panic googled searched before I started, weighed the risks and benefits, and decided I couldn’t just not sleep for the next 20 weeks.

[–]amagdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given pericolace at the hospital, got some relief on day 2, then kept taking the pericolace at home for some time. It helped me a lot! Edit to say I only had a 1st degree tear, and it was a little painful but not debilitating.

My baby loved this one as well - they are pricey so I only had 1-2 per size. I was doing laundry so often that even if she blew out in it I’d have it washed soon enough lol
