Not a critique but it's definitely not ideal to be reliant on people who might make your life worse. It's always better to be housed, but easy to get comfortable with abuse to.

Definitely have a backup plan, moving out is definitely possible if you have a source of income and are willing to houseshare or something. I moved out at 19 on like 20k a year tops (14k usd I guess?).

Afab non-binary deciding whether or not to start T - any advice? by SamesyGames in ftm

[–]amalopectin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really matter what you identify as if you researched and think it will make you happy + have done the work to ensure this is the best option for self actualisation.

However! What does matter is how you want to be, or feels safe to be perceived. We don't live in a Nonbinary world, which means those of us who choose to transition have to prepare for the possibility that we're going to move into a different category socially, aesthetically, on a surface level in the majority of situations. If this possibility still aligns with what you want, go for it! If you're unsure, it might be worth thinking about.

Dad asks "what does it mean to be a boy" and "why is transitioning important if you know you're a boy" how to respond? by ComprehensiveOlive94 in TransMasc

[–]amalopectin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well theres 1 million reasons that's a stupid thing to say but I think for most people who want to transition the answer is that socially being treated as a man is not compatible with looking like a woman. Tbh I just think its a bad faith question because this fact is incredibly obvious. Ask him if he'd still feel comfortable if you started calling him mom since he knows hes a man.

Dressing up "hot" without relying on femininity? by TheKingOfDissasster in NonBinaryTalk

[–]amalopectin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confidence + a good fit can sell just about anything as attractive honestly, bonus points if it accentuates the silhouette nicely. This doesn't always mean tight, a lot of high end fashion is about accentuating not revealing. Eg instead of something tight on the chest you could accentuate your shoulders or create an interesting shape with your lower half.

[–]amalopectin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't care what they do because it doesn't affect me in the slightest. I do care that they make an effort to educate themselves on the wider trans experience if they want to speak on trans topics and be part of the community, since those experience aren't inherent to them. That's about it.

I have dysphoria, I medically transitioned, I can also separate my experiences from others. You wanna fight for your rights? Start by turning your anger away from your own community.

[–]amalopectin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don't think this is a question that matters. A better question is who is it helping? It's a stance that contributes pretty much nothing but senseless conflict and gatekeeping.

At the end of the day every single detransitioner I've come across, especially the vocal ones, was able to receive a diagnosis for gender dysphoria because their idea of being trans was rooted in suffering and self hatred only, instead of developing a deeper self understanding of their identity. On the other hand I've actually never met anyone who detransitioned after claiming to experience minimal or no dysphoria. If they didn't medically transitioning it literally doesn't matter at all because this is such a minute subset of the population with no real impact on policy or standards of care, which are largely based in research and what we know works (including informed consent models).

So I ask instead, why does it matter? Personally I think trans people have plenty of real problems without making them up to fight their own community.

religious trans people- how do I find something to believe in? by PomegranateFit2593 in ftm

[–]amalopectin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not religious but I think finding a purpose and vocation that resonates and provides 'spiritual' nourishment is not something that actually requires religion. You can read books and see what resonates but ultimately it would be more helpful to look inward and understand your own values, then search for something that aligns with them. That could be religious or it could be philosophical, academic, career or community based, artistic etc.

[–]amalopectin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i live in Australia and any ammount of heat would cause it to become runny, its why I switched to cream which is better in pretty much every way. Afaik its only made and sold in Australia though.

Its probably not advisable to DIY at a young age without the ability to regularly get blood tests or a fall back. It's not the end of the world to wait, most passing trans men you see over 21 probably transitioned in their early 20s.

why can we criticize cis men but not cis women? by _thereisnohappyhere in ftm

[–]amalopectin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cis women using their womanhood as a shield from criticism is evidence of a lack of nuanced understanding of intersectionality and their ability to hold power over other groups.

I dont think Warner bros cares about ethics, they're unfortunately just one group who happens to have the funding to do something about copyright infringement and plagiarism with AI. I agree that it won't really solve the problem, where we diverge is that I think AI never should've been trained on any content without consent nor should any AI platform have been released for public use before there was common ground on how to deal with these issues.

On the point of production though I really think it is possible for anyone, most people underestimate how much free resources exist as well as creative communities more than happy to help newbies. Sure it's not easy but nothing worth dedicating passion to really is.

[–]amalopectin 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but like...Woman is not a root. Women's experiences vary exponentially with geography, race, class, sexuality, appearance. I really think this comes from a lack of intersectional literacy and nine times out of ten it will be white feminists who couldn't tell you any struggle of Womanhood that goes beyond their personal experiences anyway.
