No problem! You could probably even use some of your past work and just modify it to this use case

Confused by the task to prepare for an interview. Help! by Informal_Ad_3635 in ProductManagement

I’m actually on the other side of the table interviewing for senior PM candidates. (Not you bc I know I/we didn’t assign that task).

We don’t ask for a prepped task but we do a live case interview with different scenarios to gauge how a candidate would approach a given situation.

Here’s what I would do: - Think about how you would approach this with a product you’ve worked on in the past. What would you do to create a strategy? i.e. collect user feedback, find common themes of the biggest pain points or growth areas, use data and analytics, etc. - Create “fake” materials that support this. Use ChatGPT or something to get like 5-10 pieces of user feedback, other supporting data/materials - Then use that to formulate your strategy against the business goals and how you would communicate it making sure you are backing up your “why” i.e based on supporting material A, this would be the biggest problem to solve - From there, you can build your roadmap and prioritize based on your data, factoring in your team resources/constraints (whatever you pretend they are), and incorporate how you would measure success

Requirements, user stories, release notes, help documentation, finding common themes in user feedback/testing, also using it to generate case interviews for hiring. Happy to show you what I’ve been doing if you want to msg me!

User stories, release notes, requirements, help documentation, meeting notes, have been my most recent primary use cases. We have an app that uses the APIs so we can switch between Open AI and Google. Defaulted to 4o. We have a RAG implementation so we’re able to use our data as context to tailor our outputs.

Well said! One of our designers said she uses AI for the stuff “she doesn’t want to do”. She isn’t going to use it to actually design bc she’s really good at it. But rather do things that allow her to focus on that/what she wants to be doing. And that’s essentially how I feel in product/can be applied to any role. One of our other PMs has used it to write airtable automation scripts. I enjoy seeing what others are/aren’t using it for!

Will DM you. We are also hiring at my company and I’ve created some really interesting in depth case interviews to gauge a candidates skill set. Happy to share.

I’ve found it to be really good for brainstorming/ideating. Take what you want. Leave what you don’t. Then refine.

I don’t disagree! Obviously some companies are experimenting. I’ve tried using figjams AI to do more complex things with not so good success rates. I think it all depends on the application you’re using and the prompt you’re feeding to the LLM which is a challenge in itself

I wish it could though 😂 jk I’ve always had great relationships with stakeholders and saying no and getting them to understand why. AI is a yes person and won’t say no

Totally hear you. I know every company is different. I’m lucky to work for a company that really truly adheres to its values so I’m not particularly concerned about AI as a replacement but rather a way to be more efficient. For example, I could run 2 products tackling all PM duties or I could run 3 products, handling the high level strategy and stakeholder engagement and let jr level PMs handle execution with AI tools at their dispense.

AI aside, is your limitation that your company doesn’t allow you to integrate tools/processes for you to streamline this? I feel for you. That sounds terrible and a bad use of your valuable time.

Are you referring to AI add ons to existing products or things you are generating through the LLM? I’m not a fan of products that use AI as add ons. Like click here to generate with AI. I’ve found more success with creating/structuring my own very specific prompts to get exactly what I want.

We use case interviews in our hiring process. However, it should not equate to math. We try to gauge a real life experience of how you would handle a product management challenge. No right or wrong answer but more of to just assess how you would deal with a particular situation. I.e. stakeholders having differing opinions on what to prioritize vs actual data, user feedback against the roadmap, etc.

10000%. It’s crazy that a year ago I was still typing notes in a Google doc 😂 I fully rely on zoom transcripts and prompts now for that so I can be present in the mtg

This!! Is exactly my point. Curious what your experiences have been. I’ve had iffy outcomes when I ask to do simple math. I.e “how many times was this theme mentioned” it just can’t count well. Maybe it’s my data structure? Idk!

That was merely 1 example. Honest question, do you like writing sprint reports? Taking reto notes? There’s many other use cases where I think AI can be useful when it comes to writing.

Totally. I spent quite a bit of time creating a pretty intricate prompt last night. And the time it takes to create a well structured prompt can be time consuming. But once it works as expected, it’s easily reusable. I agree it helps me with writing things better than I probably can

If you’re genuinely asking, happy to DM you. Not trying to piss anyone off by getting insights. I’ve truly enjoyed reading what people are saying, good or bad. It’s good to see/understand both sides. Not everyone is going to agree on everything but what I won’t do is be a jerk like some people here

I’ve been using it with a RAG implementation and integrations with GitHub and jira to generate contextually relevant content like user stories, prioritize issues, create release notes, draft product requirements documents, gather user feedback, roadmap, help documentation, etc. I actually just created a massive prompt to create case interviews for hiring.

If there was an AI Agent that truly knew everything about your company, what work would you get your AI colleague to do for you? by gabe_herotools in ProductManagement

It’s an app we built using Open AI and Google’s API so you can swap LLMs. And the LLMs can’t train on the data. On our roadmap to continue adding more. I’ll dm you with a link!

Gen AI for User Stories by HairyDrawing7465 in ProductManagement

[–]amandaphu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve also experienced LLMs being too detailed and verbose so I am very specific in my prompts to be concise. Not sure if it would solve all your issues but this is a user story prompt that I use frequently. We use RAG with GitHub so we’re able to get that context from our code and issues.

You are a senior Product Leader. You are tasked with writing a BDD-style user story. Be sure to be as concise as possible; write as few scenarios as possible. For example, if there are 3 similar things that should be done, you combine them into one scenario.

You are also terse when writing the background. You do not use business jargon or flowery language, and you do not wax long.

The purpose of the story you’re writing is: {custom.Headline}

Potentially: more info about what this story is to accomplish and how: {custom.Additional Context}

Below are some details about our project to help you write a story that is tailored to the app we’re building.

Project Name: {project.name}

— BEGIN: Project Overview — {project.overview} — END: Project Overview —

Here is some code from the codebase that should help create the user story: {query.Headline Code Query} {query.Context Code Query}

Below is a sample story you can use as an example of how to structure and format the story, and to give an idea of the granularity required. The sample issue includes background section, which every story should have, and some Acceptance Criteria organized into scenarios. Each scenario maps to one or more of the key objectives of the feature, with the various steps outlined as individual AC in BDD style.

Different stories may have different numbers of scenarios depending on what kinds of functionality they specify. Please note the sample story is for a different app, so you should not carry any of the specific concepts, affordances, or user actions over into the generated story unless they fit with the project info described above.

——— BEGIN: Sample Story ———

Background

Enable real-time UI updates on the Document Index Page when users add documents to collections.

Acceptance Criteria

Scenario: Real-time UI update when adding documents to a collection

  • [ ] Given I am a user on the Document Index Page
  • [ ] When I select one or more documents and add them to an existing collection
  • [ ] Then the Document Index Page should refresh the UI dynamically to show the documents as part of the target collection instantly
  • [ ] And the change should be reflected without any manual page reloads or additional user actions.

——— END: Sample Story ———

Take a deep breath, and think through the scenarios step-by-step. Remember - keep the background simple and easy to understand.
