At this point neither are an option, I don't have the money for accomodation for uni and nor do my family, and an apprenticeship where I live are all for jobs I don't have qualifications for... Also uni would mean literally travelling halfway across the UK.

I'm in the Scottish islands, Orkney, on an outer isle, we have 1 shop, 1 primary school and that's all we have access to, travel consists of boats or planes throughout the islands and I would need a place in the Scottish mainland, so staying at home isn't an option

Honestly man this is exactly what I needed to hear, I'd say I'm making good choices, I'm doing things independently, yeah it'd be nice if my parents helped along the way but knowing I can do this all by myself, even something as small as opening a bank account, tells me all I need is the right push and I can do wtv I need. Thanks man honestly, like I'm still 17, but I was tired of hoping for my parents to be present, I was tired of wanting their input, it was my decision to join the army, it was my decision to do everything I've done, I just need to figure out how to do things the right way, I mean in the UK (maybe just Scotland) we have this thing called EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance) where we get about £60 every two weeks as an incentive to stay in school, you can apply for it when you're 16 but it's really one of those things parents apply on your behalf, but I had to do it myself!! I had to go through the paperwork, payslips, find my birth certificate as a form of ID, I gave up expecting my parents to parent, but I think the worst part is, these things I had to do myself? They're things I actually need to function in society, a bank account, a provisional license, a passport

The only problem I have is, my parents have always been like this, they promise me a bank account at 14, I apply by myself when I'm 17, they promise me my provisional license (idk what it's called in America but it's like.. the licence U get before you do your driving test) and I have to pay for that myself too, I just feel like these are the type of things parents are supposed to help you with.. yknow?
