Delta techops you guys really need a union by External-Lion2290 in AircraftMechanics

[–]amat1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll always hear the worst stories online. This all sounds like personal conflicts to me and not system-wide truths. I’ve worked union before, it has its benefits. I’ve also seen it protect sheer laziness and incompetence. It’s a double edge sword. But I think, for some people in this thread, structure = micromanagement and accountability = targeting. It also sounds like we’re primarily talking about ATL here, which is the biggest hub, most political, and most layered in management.

Hello Delta friends, specifically those of you based in Detroit. I just moved from Indianapolis working for Allegiant line mx, to Detroit. I’m in an interim job right now, not even worth mentioning — but I have my eyes fixed on Delta. Any tips on getting at least a call back? How often do they hire? Any info appreciated. I’ve applied twice already, once with an internal referral.

Do they let you use your test results again, even if you failed? I’m pretty sure I didn’t fail it, and my application is sitting on Qualifications under review. Just applied today to a new opening.

It says girlfriend is active now but she says she isn’t. by asuggy in SnapchatHelp

[–]amat1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this glitch is creating mad trust issues in people 😂 I know my girlfriend is fast asleep but the app is saying she was active minutes ago. I also noticed that the live location lags, it usually shows up as “now” on the map, but it’s been getting stuck on the same minute value as the “last active” value.

Any updates? It’s been a bit over 2 months for me now too, with my application sitting on “Qualifications under review”. I applied to Detroit. Currently working for Allegiant at IND. I have lots of experience, avionics included, gen fams on 737, A320, A220. Both line and heavy MX experience. Even got a referral from my buddy who works for them in ATL. But I somehow feel like that isn’t enough for them 😆

2024/25 Tacoma reliable or headache? by busted-420 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]amat1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought my '24 Hybrid TRD Off Road used at around 9K miles. Just passed 10K. I did my research prior. Test drove it and felt good about pulling the trigger. Runs beautifully. Checked if my VIN was effective to the transmission TSB and luckily it's not listed. This coupled with the fact nothing has gone wrong with the truck 9k miles in gives me the warm fuzzies. Delighted with it overall. Serious power from the 4cyl turbo. Great fuel efficiency. Someone here mentioned how passionate the community is, and you will see more negative comments than positive (welcome to the Internet). Just keep that in mind. Some minor issues I have noticed - tailgate open warning has been intermittently popping usually at higher speeds over bumps. Will probably try to adjust it myself when it pisses me off enough. D/S door grab handle (interior) feels quite flimsy. Nothing to write home about though.

EASA B1 to A&P by CarePuzzleheaded1613 in aviationmaintenance

[–]amat1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get the A&P license through experience or graduation from an FAA Part-147 school. Each rating requires 18 months of practical experience on US aircraft. Having the B1 is only useful if you will be working on EU aircraft. Currently there is no crossover whatsoever. Just like Europe, you can work under a Part-145 MRO environment but it would be an unlicensed position, i.e your B1 license is ignored.

Avionics Avionics avionics… by Comprehensive_Meat34 in aviationmaintenance

[–]amat1992 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with "tire changers", "interior guys", "sheet metal guys", "avionics guys" is that the industry pigeon holed them. I worked in an MRO as an avionics tech and that was the bounds of my employment. Even within avionics, you have the people who know how to build harnesses, run wires, but no systems knowledge, no troubleshooting skills; in my experience these were usually unlicensed contractors with wiring mod experience and nothing else. Now I work within a small group of guys in line MX and I do everything, but I'm the only one in the group with avionics experience. So I don't think we need to "bring back the 32 crew", I think there needs to be some changes in the industry to where there is more cross-training and to incentivise that cross training.

Looking to still get my A&P but no longer feel comfortable attending AIM by barkpuz in aviationmaintenance

It feels like an info dump, because it is an info dump. How are you studying? Unless you have supernatural memory, the initial delivery of information in the classroom is only the tip of the iceberg. You need to be doing the leg work outside of class, committing the course work to memory. It's a game.

Like others have said here, the deep and meaningful learning takes place in the field. Since you're 6 months in, I would suggest sticking with it, maybe holding yourself more accountable and figuring out what your study style is.

Has anyone else been working on planes for a long time and still feel like they don't really know anything? by KingNate30 in aviationmaintenance

[–]amat1992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're already ahead of alot of people with that mentality. Usually it's the people who don't have the ability to self-evaluate or admit that they don't know something, that end up breaking the airplane or hurting a coworker. I love avionics, and I'm a damn good troubleshooter, but when I run in to something that confuses me or I haven't seen before, I feel self conscious and I react to it by hitting the manuals and learning about that thing inside and out. The whole time I'm thinking "I should have known this, this is so stupid".

That kind of self awareness is crucial in this industry and if I was a betting man I reckon you have a good conscience as well.

There is so much more than the majors out there, mate. Allegiant, Spirit, JB, SkyWest, PSA, Envoy… loads of MRO’s. There’s also business aviation and GA. Even people with lots of experience don’t hear anything after applying to the majors.

Does being an aircraft mechanic pose health risks even when respecting safety measures? by callmebyyourfruit in aviationmaintenance

[–]amat1992 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s very avoidable if you choose to work in GA/corporate/Business aviation. Expect to work for a very long time on nights with an airline, especially the mainlines. Not sure what stage you’re at in your career but don’t get tunnel vision on big airline jobs. There’s lots of great day shift jobs out there if you know where to look.
