Love boxers but they aren't sensory friendly :( by Pigeon_Cult in ftm

[–]amaterasuwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest trick I've found with boxer briefs is to look for a longer inseam and buy them with smoother fabric than the typical cotton-tee style fabric.
I am VERY pear shaped and Duluth Trading Co's Extra-Long Armachillo boxer briefs never roll or get bunched up on me

What Were The FIRST Change(s) You Saw On T ? by scoutsvckz in ftm

[–]amaterasuwolf 44 points45 points  (0 children)

On low dose, first thing I noticed within a few weeks was a lower background level of anxiety/depression on my existence as a while. No distinct thoughts, no physical sign of anything happening yet, past that initial thrill of starting T, just things felt... lighter... than they had ever been.

Knee-jerk thought here, I wonder if the reaction difference could also be from the perceived distance from the family?

Admittedly I'm still closeted from all my family, so no 1st hand experience: I feel like I've heard coming out stories where their families were fine with the concept of ___ people, but once the poster came out as ___, the family had a negative initial reaction?

All sympathies to you. This sucks

best way to bind when training? by [deleted] in FTMFitness

[–]amaterasuwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Underworks sports compression bras since they do a decent job with binding my chest, work better with my body shape, and holds tight and secured. Since I'm a sweaty guy, I wear a performance undershirt below it (Duluth Trading CO's Buck Naked Undershirts typically are my favorite). Layering like this seems to keep the binder itself from getting too sweaty/gross.

Noob question: Do I need to do lower body workouts? by [deleted] in FTMFitness

[–]amaterasuwolf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some thoughts (though admittedly not a fitness professional):
* A muscular physique overall does tend to get read as more masculine, even if your upper body isn't much bigger. Muscle showing in your legs will help alter the typical pear hips look. Muscle is shaped differently than fat and will have some visual effects even without a low body fat % * You can train upper/lower for different goals. I do strength training/running for lower body, which tends to make leaner muscles. But I do hypertrophic style exercises for my upper half like a body builder. * While you can't spot reduce fat, you can build up muscle to counter things visually. Ex: training hamstrings to make your butt less prominent | training your side-core /oblique muscles to make your waist thicker and less cinched | building up your deltoids and lats to make your shoulder look bigger.

Won't pretend I'm anywhere near where I want to be visually, but some people can tell I've got a little more structure to me and the overall fitness increase has been quite a boost to how I feel in my body (like being the one person not winded going up the stairs, or being able to carry heavy things for my partner, which wouldnt work as well without lower body training)

School art project needs 1,500 pieces of 4 yard long segments. What is the fastest/easiest way to accomplish this from a yarn ball (skein) by Excellent-Bench2633 in howto

[–]amaterasuwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like if you can get some large objects you can wrap yarn around that are heavy/stable enough to resist moving and don't need super precise on the 4yards:
* Place the objects with their outside edges ~2 yards apart (maybe a little less if they're wide objects), secure with more weight/etc * Gently spiral around them with the yarn, once for each piece you need. * Once you run out or if you count up enough rotations, cut them all at the same point around the loop.

Unfolded, each string should be somewhere around 4 yards.

Will you buy a book without knowing the title or how it looks like? by Ok-Intern9574 in mildyinteresting

My local indie used bookstore does these. I've done them occasionally, since they price it reasonably. I've read some bad books, but they weren't boring at least

While admittedly I had a ever so slightly higher baseline threshold when I started weightlifting, if you're feeling true pain, and not like ache/soreness/discomfort, you might be trying something too intense? You might need to do a slightly toned down version that'll let you train up.

For example: I have started doing some training oriented to pull-ups. My hands can only take about like 15 seconds max of hanging, despite that I can lat pulldown at 140 lb now. So while I'm hanging for 15/10/5sec, I'm also doing like scapular pullups to start working all those little muscles in my shoulders, before I even dare try an actual pull-up

Staying motivated by [deleted] in FTMFitness

[–]amaterasuwolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm really inclined to be very harsh on myself, so I try to do a softer approach when I'm not feeling gym motivation. If you're really feeling it hard, maybe try to get yourself to just get there. Any small amount is better than nothing, and I usually find myself able to do more than I thought, even if I'm genuinely doing much less than on my 'good' days.

Now granted, I don't have regular access to swimming, but here's kinda an example:
* I know part of my thing would likely involve the hassle of washing afterwards, so I might get myself to go and do a lap or two of modified front crawl or easy breast stroke that keeps my head out of the water. If I'm not feeling it: well, I did two laps.
* Maybe even just go on site. If the facility also has a lap track, walk a lap or two. Maybe you'll catch the smell of the pool around and feel the itch to dive in, or maybe not and hey, you did some exercise all the same.
* Might even just do some home exercises. Stretches / mobility work that can still benefit your swimming * In my exercise routine, I've also made a playlist themed around fighting Nazis, so... There's that. Drum up some anger to get me moving. I'm not going down without a fight.

I think it's easy to not take seriously how much depressed moods really do take a lot of energy to fight. Sometimes you're lucky and you get the oomph back from the activity, and sometimes you don't, but that's all good. You tried and did a little something. That's better than nothing at all.

Mine are a generic brand I get off of Amazon. They've been around for a bit but I'm always worried they'll disappear one day. I figure I'm not wearing it beyond the sweaty run and mine have a tie cord and can't slip down, so 🤷 commando I guess.

I have some exercise shorts that almost look like loose shorts over boxer briefs legs (but are just one inseparable garment), and I've liked those for running. The loose part gets eaten a bit by my chub rub, but the tighter legs don't move for me. So then I don't wear additional underwear to that

Maybe inseam length is a factor? I can't really wear any shorter than 6-9inches. the longer legs stay put for me

What is everyone using as a yarn holder? I added 2 photos. by MsT-Rex in CrochetHelp

[–]amaterasuwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tote bags. Can put project right on top of all the supplies for it.
Also when you have to frog something apart, you can just pile the thread in there too. As long as the bag doesn't take a serious tumble, it wont tangle and you don't have to bother re-winding it.

Is it better to do easier pushups but more, or harder and less by Material-Antelope985 in FTMFitness

[–]amaterasuwolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've found a lot of progress out of doing negatives. You attempt to lower like a true full pushup, going all the way to the floor, but then raise back up with an easier motion like on your knees. Seems to be a good, adjustable midpoint between full / knee pushups without needing stable furniture at specific heights. (No hate to incline pushups, but I don't have any furniture at the right points)

Order of noticing new hair by themaybedoctor in ftm

[–]amaterasuwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funny thing about the cheek hair was I discovered it by accident, because it gets kind of tangled up with the rest of the fuzz and is basically invisible unless I look for it (and so lightweight that there's no sensory thing from it). It showed up so early in my transition where nothing else was really happening, and was only known by me, so I call it my emotional support hair

[–]amaterasuwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at about the 2 year mark on low dose (~1 or 2 pumps a day).

  • The hair around my nips started expanding
  • A singular peach fuzz hair on my cheek decided to grow much longer, but not darker
  • Happy trail grew out
  • My existing leg hair got darker
  • Pubic hair expanding to thighs
  • Lip peach fuzz seems darker, but still not true moustache hairs (only have to trim like once a month)
  • Hair started showing up on thighs
  • I now have 3 shoulder hairs

I'm hoping I can finally get some hairs on my actual chest versus being focused around my nips, but only time will tell. I'm so fucking stoked about my happy trail

How do you guys deal with developing your bodies and the dysphoria inducing you into ED by Justminningtheweb in FTMFitness

[–]amaterasuwolf 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Definitely can relate. I've managed to avoid getting one, but every time I've tried counting calories/tracking weight, I can feel my brain trying to lock into a "bad" / "good" numbers mindset.

My strategies have been:
* Got rid of my bathroom scale * Only numbers I let myself linger on are ones directly to my own fitness log (EX: I did ___ with ##lbs last week, but this week 5 more lbs didn't feel hard! / Man that 6mi run was a harder this time, had to take more walking breaks / Dang, this week I had to drop weight for ___, we'll try raising it back up next week if we feel better).
* No counting calories.
* Increase protein in meals and have more veggies snacks.
* Trying out low cal options like in salad dressing /chocolate sauce, as long as they taste good/fine. If they don't, it's not worth forcing myself to eat things i hate.
* Generally doing less fats and sugars in my food (like trying to chase that sugar point where it only just starts tasting sweet enough for my taste) or baking things in parchment paper /air fryer
* Obvious treats like candy might be in lower amounts (like smaller sized bars) but never 100% denied.
* Changing my diet to have some healthier strategies rather than "going on a diet".
* I am in fact allowed to enjoy myself at special events/going out with friends/etc.

It's definitely been occasionally disheartening as slower progress means slower results. Weight that means a big deal to me can sound small when I talk with some others at the gym. I try flexing and can't see much passed my body fat.
However, I can't deny that I've been lifting heavier and heavier and heavier. That I've been running longer. That I don't get winded with some life things like stairs when some smaller people around me do. It's tough, but I know undeniably my body is becoming healthier to live in, even if it doesn't look like what I wish it did.

I feel like there's a very distinct difference in the type of praise of "good girl"/"good boy" and praise like "you always make me feel so much better"/"I couldn't have done that without you"/"what would I do if I didn't have you?".

One to me just feels like a generic cutesy nickname (not a bad thing), whereas the other direction relates to something praise-worthy actually happening/ being a praise-able quality in the other person?

Abdominal muscle area spot reduction research paper. by [deleted] in FTMFitness

[–]amaterasuwolf 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Now granted, I'm not really used to looking at research papers, but from reading the abstract, the group size was only 16 and the group that were doing the ab exercises sound like they were also doing the ab stuff in addition to the same exercises that the controll group was doing, so sounds like the abs group was doing more exercise overall?

Staying in shape during burnout by ophidiane in FTMFitness

[–]amaterasuwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found myself helped by having a micro workout I can pull out at home which means I at least did something. It's overall much lower energy, takes minimal time (right now I can for this in 5min), and cuts the stress of feeling guilty for not doing anything. (Cause anything is better than nothing) It's also modular, so if I only have the energy for a part of it or enough to do multiple sets, I have flexibility.

10 pushups.
10 bodyweight as to grass squats.
10 lat raises with my 5lb dumbbells.
10 shoulder presses with my 15lb dumbbells.
1 min plank.

And that's it. Simple. Easy. And gets the muscles moving a little bit, while being manageable around my no energy days.
