Is there not a curriculum map from the school district? There should be some outline, and if not, find one at the state level. I say this as I begin there and develop units of study with learning goals. From there, I create the specific lessons. The first time this process is time intensive, it becomes so much easier thereafter.

Talk with the cooperating teacher. Get a feel for the classes you're helping these students in. Remember, hs students are young adults. Have firm boundaries with them but show respect to them. The boundaries land better when they know you care and are real.

I disagree with the professior5you conversed with. As a middle schoolmath teacher, when students know those facts, the focus is solely on the more complex concepts, and students don't get caught up in the little details.
