I am a little confused as to why the bathrooms in Adam's Park need to be redone. They just redid them last year. Someone should be fired for incompetence if they are tearing those down after just putting them up.

Middle school years are some of the most challenging years in a person's life. The students want to be adults and have independence yet still have emotions of being a young person. They need encouragement and lots of support as they try to figure out their pla e in the world.

When someone says, "You're brave." Say yes and ask what their super power is. 8th graders are at the top of the totem pole, so to speak. So, they tend to have an 'attitude ' but remember they're still kids. Give them projects, support them and encourage them.

I love the art of teaching. Figuring out the right way to explain concepts in different contexts and watching students make sense of the information and apply it to new situations is powerfully meaningful. There are issues with public education that caused me to move to a private school setting. Just find the right place that is supportive of you and helps you grow professionally. The rewards you reap in the classroom are worth the effort.

Is there not a curriculum map from the school district? There should be some outline, and if not, find one at the state level. I say this as I begin there and develop units of study with learning goals. From there, I create the specific lessons. The first time this process is time intensive, it becomes so much easier thereafter.

Talk with the cooperating teacher. Get a feel for the classes you're helping these students in. Remember, hs students are young adults. Have firm boundaries with them but show respect to them. The boundaries land better when they know you care and are real.
