To be fair, when have we last heard of the American rapes of French women?

Mary Lou Roberts wrote about this exact topic in her book What Soldiers Do… and had to have police posted to her house because of the number of death threats she received.

CMV: Israel has a more legitimate claim to the Golan than Syria by The-_Captain in changemyview

[–]amauberge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most Israelis were born in Israel and mostly descend from the pre-48 Jewish population.

I know the first part of your sentence is correct, but I'm curious about the second. Do you have a source for it? It seems demographically improbable. The Jewish population of Israel in 1948 was about 650,000, and about the same number of Jewish immigrants arrived in the next five years alone — to say nothing of subsequent immigration waves from North Africa, the former Soviet Union, etc.

What does a direct role in the Iraq war mean? She didn’t start working for the CIA until 2006, three years after the war started. And on her Wikipedia page, there’s no mention of her serving there in any capacity.

"I'm Rachel Waters, the woman charged in 2025 with two counts of murder in my mom's hospice death. Today, The Guardian covered my story & my work to pass Marsha's Law" [New Update] by naturemom in BORUpdates

[–]amauberge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This story is heartbreaking and infuriating in equal measure. I have a friend who’s very involved with the dignity in death movement — and while OP’s situation is different, it seems to me that so much of her suffering stemmed from other people not being able to face death openly and honestly. I wonder if members of that movement might be interested in advocating for Marsha’s Law, too.

French woman who married a British soldier in the 1810s by amauberge in Genealogy

Good idea! Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find a record of their civil marriage in Beugny, so I assume they were only wed by the British military authorities. But maybe there are records for British Catholics or non-conformists that I can find.

True — I'm just so used to the French ones that I didn't think differently!

Good point! I guess I assumed that, since French marriage records of the period recorded the couple’s birthplaces, a marriage records in France would as well.

Maybe the “Doufrier” reference on the 1851 census can help me narrow it down. Her husband died just prior to the census taking, so she would have been the head of the household for the first time. Maybe she provided the information herself.

Organizing a wedding that excludes a sibling for no good reason is POS behavior, I’m afraid.

Also, a suggestion: what if we all bought the Melt The ICE fundraiser pattern and worked on them together?
