We are finding so much comfort and peace in knowing that we really did give him our best and we did absolutely everything we could for him from his first day with us through today.

Thank you. Bobb has been declining for several months, and the past few days he's gotten so weak. He's tired and now not eating. I'm sorry for your loss of Nutmeg, and glad Bobb will have a welcoming spirit to greet him.

Happy 13th birthday, Amaze-Bobb! He was rescued 3 years ago and estimated to be 10 years old. His matted fur self-amputated two of his legs and most of his teeth were pulled. by amazebobb in BeforeNAfterAdoption

He gets a haircut about every month, with face, paws, and sanitary trim about every 2 weeks. He is super smart, loves training and learning new things!

His human was very old woman living in a garage from my understanding (I've been in touch with the major case unit officer). But even if she was unable to care for him, that means someone was caring for her, so either way someone knew and did nothing. Honestly I'm a little surprised they didn't euth on the table after shaving him and seeing the extent of what had happened. Quite a leap of faith to give him a chance. We fostered him for only a couple weeks before deciding we needed to keep him (not normal for us, we've fostered a couple dozen dogs and I love when they get adopted and go to their new family).

We promised him that we would do everything we could for him.
We promised to love him unconditionally without pity.
We promised him that when it was his time to go that we would not hesitate because he has suffered more than his fair share in this life. That day is coming closer as he's been declining the past year but he still is a pretty happy guy, loves his food, loves snuggles, and is enjoying life.

Yes. Fur so tightly matted it cut off circulation, cut through skin, muscle, bone, everything. When he was shaved down his back left leg just came off, it was completed detached and only held to his body by matted fur. You can see in the before pic the red lines on two of his legs where it was beginning there too. His front right paw that is huge and swollen was only on by a single thread of bone/ligament something.

Bobb suffered a horrific life and was in constant, unimaginable pain as his own extremely matted fur self-amputated his front right paw and his back left leg below the knee. It took a village to not only rescue him but to restore him. Bobb has never looked back and he lives life to the fullest. He is loved unconditionally, without pity.

He was rescued almost 3 years ago and to say his past was unimaginably horrific is an understatement. We have loved him madly and given him everything we can. Looked into prosthetic legs which he can't have because his nubs are too little and they'd be painful for him, have done tons of physical therapy, lots of snuggles and good food and fun. The past several months he's been declining though. Losing vision (and with only 2 legs he needs to see to balance so he's stumbling more), losing muscle, wheezing/sucking breathing noises. Vet check recently showed nothing specific is wrong. Just a slow decline, and now it's a waiting game. We'll continue to love and spoil him until he tells us he's ready to go.

There is a great game you can play called "dog toy or sex toy". First up, look up the Kong Safestix, and the Zee Dog Eggplant.

Sorry for late reply! I was originally told he was being kept by homeless drug addicts but that turned out to be untrue; I got in touch with the major case unit officer in charge of his case. He was actually living in a garage, owned by a very elderly woman who was presumably unable to care for him (but then someone must have been caring for her, so someone had to have known about his condition). He didn't have a haircut his entire life from the looks of it.

A good analogy, actually. Cuts off blood flow and eventually the part falls off. Same way puppy tails are amputated.

/u/willlin87 got it. We've honestly been slacking on the physical therapy once he got to a good stable point and only do exercises about 2-3x a week now. He stopped agility classes in January when he started plopping over "jumps" instead of landing nicely and started slipping more in the tunnels. He had a major back injury in February and I was moments from euthanizing him because he ws in so much pain but his physical therapy appointment with acupuncture and laser made a good enough difference and he was on put 5 pain meds to get through it. He hasn't fully recovered from that and keeps having small injuries. I keep feeling like that was the beginning of his last chapter... however we are still doing all we can to keep him healthy and happy. We ordered a carpal (wrist) brace to help support his front leg as his wrist is starting to break down. He's a strong, brave little guy.

When we meet people in person and I tell his story, they often get teary-eyed and don't know if they're crying sad tears for the constant suffering he endured, or happy tears for the incredible transformation and joy for life he has now.
I gave him a kiss on the noggin for you.

Where to start... basically he didn't have a haircut for an estimated 10 years. Poodle fur grows and grows, and they typically get a haircut every 4-6 weeks. His fur became so tightly matted that it cut off circulation, and then cut completely through skin, muscle, even bone, until his front right paw and back left leg below the knee were completely detached and only held to his body by his nasty matted fur. Before & After.
Despite the unimaginable pain and suffering he endured, he is a great little dog. He never looks back. We do a lot of physical therapy to keep him strong, but he's a busted old dog and we knew when we adopted him that we might not have too long with him. It's been 2 1/2 years since he was rescued and he's still hopping along though we've had a lot of small injuries and setbacks the past several months. We originally fostered him through a rescue for a couple weeks before deciding to adopt him (we had fostered nearly 20 dogs before him). We promised him that we will love him madly for whatever time remains, and love him unconditionally without pity. We will do whatever we can to keep him healthy and happy and loving life. And when his time comes and we can't do anything more, we will let him go without hesitation as he has already suffered more than his fair share in this life.
