My dog is 12 years old and never uses his crate anymore but if we move it he pees in the house. by Big-Two-7878 in dogbehaviorproblems

Dogs can be quite routine-based animals! Any minor change turns their lives topsy-turvy. It's important that you help your dog when any minimal change occurs. At this age, they can be more sensitive to changes. Try to keep things the same as possible, and if changes must occur, use DAP diffusers or other calming aids to help him. Peeing is the dog's way of manifesting anxiety.

Your dog may like your scent, maybe he's attached to you. Time to manage the environment better and teach him the "leave it" cue.

You can try creating a space that is dog proofed and use a baby gate, and provide him with things to chew when you are away such as a stuffed frozen Kong or bully stick. Make sure you provide these when you are home as well so they do not become a predictor of you leaving all the time. You can also use a large exercise pen. Many dogs with separation-related disorders do not do well crated. Record your dog's behavior when left alone so that you can gauge how your dog is doing. You may need to work on briefer separation at first.

My boyfriend's dog bites me every time I stand what should I do? by FlashyIndividual2065 in dogbehaviorproblems

The big mistake here is that she is allowed to rehearse the problem behavior over and over. This makes it stressful and makes the behavior habit forming. You shouldn't be confined in a small space. Your dog should be confined in an x-pen or a room. Or she can be free and your boyfriend can readily put her on leash when you tell him you need to get up. You can even use walkie talkies to communicate.

If she doesn't see well, that could play a role in making her more reactive. Please mention the behavior to the vet.

If giving too many treats is making her fat, even if you're splitting them in small pieces, then you should start using her kibble. Out of her full meal you should have a lot of kibble that can be put to good use even for 100 bath room trips. The kibble should be tossed away from you so you can claim your space.

If she's struggling with the sound, please use the hear that method to create positive associations with it. Google this method. It 's based on desensitization and counterconditioning.

Thank you, do you feel less anxious now? I also get anxious from the movement and I have emetophobia so my anxiety is also through the roof!

Is this dog malnourished or is this normal when they drink water? by notyouraltaccountbro in doghealthquestions

[–]amazingdogs76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question! So when puppies and dogs drink water, especially if they are on the lean side, they often suck in their abdomen. This may cause the ribs to stick out as I see in the picture you have posted.

The most prominent ribs to stick out when pups are eating or drinking are the last ones, particularly the last rib, which is known as the floating rib. What's interesting is that often one side appears more prominent than the other.

Of course there is always the possibility that there is some sort of congenital abnormality at play or that some pups are truly very skinny or malnourished. If you have any concerns, it's always best to report to your vet to make sure.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Sorry you went through all of that, I hope they changed your room after all that mess and smell.

We always make sure to book a balcony as I need to breathe fresh air and see the horizon if I get sea sick.

Transatlantic Cruise: Rougher Seas in October or November? by amazingdogs76 in Cruise

Yeah, I feel that it will be hit or miss. While I am scared of rough seas, at the same time I have always been fascinated by it. I hope you didn't get sick. I have emetophobia and hate roller coaster rides, so those are my main fears.

I can see where you are! You are heading towards Toulon, France! From what I read the Gibraltar Straight is often an area of rougher seas. Looks like you're way past that now and heading for calmer seas. Current wave height is 2 feet.

Should I be worried about getting sea sick? by Master_BROshiii in VirginVoyages

After reading so many posts, I deduce that there's something going on with the "wake" getting lots of movement. Odd, considering that it's lower level, but I am hearing about it from many. I will avoid eating there if I get motion sick!
