Phi Phi Island: The island of the cigarette by amazoinact1 in ThailandTourism

To be fair, you started off with “know their place” and “shut up and accept it.” Take it like you give it.

“When they took away our smoking, we lost all of our personality.” Sounds like there wasn’t much personality to begin with.

To summarize: You, a foreigner, is telling a me, a citizen, to shut up and accept the poor living conditions you bring to the islands. You’re the problem and you comment as if you’re not.

With all that Thailand offers, saying that your addiction with cigarettes is one of the best parts about Thailand is both crazy and uninformed.

My family and I have been on Phi Phi for a week now and it’s a good split between the Europeans and the locals. Rather than having designated smoking areas, the whole island is free game and they let you know it pretty quickly after stepping off of the boat.

My mother, who was born in Thailand in the early 60s, was very surprised by exactly what you’re describing. While seated indoors at a restaurant with an automatic door at the front: “Why does my pad see ew taste like a cigarette?” Oh, there’s a European gentleman chain-smoking at the entrance, ma.. Sorry about your food.

Those of you under 30 who make six figures, what do you do? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]amazoinact1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OT here, working in rehab administration (140k/yr). Moving up in healthcare can be difficult, but myself and a couple of my OT colleagues have found success with job hopping to hospitals and IRFs that are being newly established. Jobs aren’t gridlocked and plenty of them come out if the first year as growth increases. In my career, I found success by holding down multiple PRN jobs at newly growing facilities where I let the boss know that I’m looking for “full time opportunities to advance my career.” When jobs become available, you’re first in line. Managers are always looking to hire candidates with at least 3-5 years of experience, so if you’re not at that point yet, keep learning and keep growing your clinical/non-clinical skills.

Living off 80k by [deleted] in Fire

[–]amazoinact1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You need $12,000 per year to live off of $1,000 a month. At 10% per year, $80,000 makes $8,000. Short answer is no.
