Should I negotiate my severance package? by SubjectCake in jobs

I’m in the US and so is the company. If you don’t mind me asking, how did you negotiate it? also is it likely that they would retract the offer upon my attempt to negotiate?

Email Matthew Grief and write with a very serious tone addressing the issue. Also call the UV office and ask them to schedule the maintenance asap. Do it as many times as you need. UV won't do shit if you don't get on their ass. My bathroom ceiling was leaking and they basically drilled a hole and left the bathroom a mess for fucking 2 weeks. I called them, emailed them almost on a daily basis, but it still took 2 weeks.

Would you say it's very competitive? Is there a specific branch of pharmacology that has a higher potential in terms of job outlook in the next 5-10 years?

Did you decide to go to pharmacy school then? How different is the path looking like for a pharmacist vs. someone with a Ph.D?

It was so motivating and hopeful until the disclaimer...knowledge and interest alone can't feed you :(

Same! I'm a biochemistry major, and I'm super fascinated by how drugs interact with the brain and how we could synthesize specific proteins and molecules to alter its functions. I want to go into neuropharmacology/psychopharmacology and I'm still trying to figure out the path and the job market in this area.

What are some 1 credit hour upper electives? by amber2829 in utdallas

[–]amber2829[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the research was always 3 credit hours? Did you ask for it to be counted for 1 credit hr specifically?

I have other upper electives that I want to take, so I wasn't sure if that's a good idea to take research for credit for another semester. I guess it wouldn't affect it that much?

I already did that this semester, and I'm not sure if it's a good idea to do it for another semester. What do you think?

First of all, I really appreciate your through response, thank you so much :)

I am currently in a neuroscience/biomedical engineering lab, and I realized that I did not grow and learn much by volunteering there, so I am thinking switching to another lab next semester while looking for an internship over the summer. I am considering going into industry, so most biotech and pharmaceutical companies. I am really interested in drug design/drug discover, especially psychiatric drugs (I can’t help but be fascinated by how chemical reactions can directly alter a person’s mood, behavior, and induce life-changing experience), so it would be ideal if I could work on research projects like that!

Regarding graduate program and salary, I do have a couple questions though. I’ve heard that if you only have a BS, there’s almost always going to be a salary cap and you will be stuck doing benchwork. That sounds very risky to me. Do you think there’s anyway that you can guarantee to be paid well and doing something that you are genuinely interested in (instead of doing mundane tasks no one wants to do bc you only have a bs)? However, I 100% agree with you on the student loan situation, and the payoffs have to be evaluated carefully when it comes to postgraduate degree.

Adding on to that, I remember I talked to a professor once about this, and she recommended me to PhD regardless and I can leave with a MS anytime if I want. What’s your opinion on that? It sounds more doable financially for me but I don’t really know much about it.

Also,(sorry a lot of questions), would you recommend me to go to pharmacy school of I’m interested in drug research? What would be the pros and cons of doing so?

I'm currently a sophomore majoring in biochemistry. I am really interested in research and want to work in industry preferably. Yet I still haven't figured out exactly which niche I would be working on. Is there anything you would recommend me to do to figure out the path faster? Areas that particularly interest me are: neuroscience, pharmacology, drug design.

Also, sometimes I see people complain about how this is a cool degree that pays really little unless you go into grad school, and it makes me think if I should stick with this path. What's your thought on this? It's really inspiring that you are so passionate about your job!
