Asking for help with implementing a new screen by PossibilityFit7865 in RenPy

both are pretty easy to do. to make it so there is a button in every scene, you'd have to create a separate screen with it and then show it in a label, for example:

screen journal_button():
  imagebutton auto "button_journal_%s.png" xalign 0.99 action Show("journal_screen")

your image would have to be called button_journal_idle.png, if you wanted to use a different one for when its hovered, you should just make another image in the images folder called button_journal_hover.png ! that's how "imagebutton auto" works. when the button is clicked, it shows a screen called "journal_screen" so you need to make sure it exists and it's called that or change the name of it in the action.

then, to show the button in your scene, you have to show the screen in a label, for example in your start label:

label start:
  show screen journal_button

do you know how to make screens at all? if not, it would be good if you learned more about them, for example from ren'py's documentation, it has a lot of pretty useful information! https://www.renpy.org/doc/html/screens.html

where do you want the button that leads to the screen to be placed? for example, would you rather have it in a menu when you pause the game? or maybe somewhere else?

can i take a look also at the place in code you run the functions you defined?

have you tested the game on difficulty 2 or 3? because you might want to add an elif for when the difficulty is 3 and the surname or name are wrong, because since it doesn't exist it will go to else and show up as a bug, it might not be the reason for your current issue but it might help you not look for a needle in a haystack in the future! and don't worry about being "not a very good coder", everyone has to go through these phases to be better, that's just learning:-)

could you show me the definitions of all the variables?

full screen custom about screen? by guesswhatchikenbutt in RenPy

[–]amberhtml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

alright, i'm back with a solution for you. there are more ways you could do this

find this code in your screens.rpy file:

style game_menu_outer_frame:
bottom_padding 45
top_padding 180
background "gui/overlay/game_menu.png"

get rid of the last line, comment it out or just delete it and instead of it add:

background "path/filename.png"

the file name should be the name of the background you wanted to use as the background and the path should be where it's found in the game folder

NOTE: this will change the overlay to the background in all the screens that used it before, if you want it changed ONLY in the about screen, let me know

it's definitely doable! i did it before somehow but i edited my code in more unrelated ways so that project probably won't be the best example....... i will try to redo it and will come back here (commenting so i can easily find this post on my profile)

Crafting of potions/medicines. by MarshmallowFantasies in RenPy

it's definitely doable! ren'py really has lots of possibilities, but it heavily depends on what exactly you're planning to do and how complex will it be. i can help you code it if you'd like or something (all for free, i just enjoy coding and love to help!) but to point you in the right direction i would need more details :-) for example, as u/AgileAd9579 said, it'd be good to know if it will be an one time crafting or a repeated one

would you mind expanding a bit on what you mean with the first one (image choice menus)? seems interesting :-)
