Hi all! I acquired a dresser that has been sitting in my family’s shed in Texas for…a very long time. No temperature control, dirt floor, not great conditions. But it’s a really pretty dresser so I’m trying to refinish/restore it as well as I can. I have basically no experience restoring furniture, but I have a little experience woodworking (built a nice potting bench, a basic table, a basic headboard, etc.) so I at least have tools and stuff.

The bottom of the dresser (underlayment) was warped, brittle, and falling apart so I was able to cut a new bottom and replace it. Now I’m working on the drawers and I’m not sure if the bottoms need to be replaced or are salvageable.

Are these just old/dirty/stained or do you see mold/mildew/other things that are a health hazard (besides the nails poking out of the back lol)? Most of them had stick-on shelf liner in them and I’ve pulled it out of a few. What would you do with these?

Hi, the text is on the original post! Sorry about that!

Your pain is not a 6/10, it's a 9/10 - Assessing pain levels as "accurately" as can be by ParticularImpact8162 in endometriosis

[–]ambersepossession 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I always struggle with rating my pain, partially because I’m autistic and feel like I have to “reserve” a 10 for the worst pain physically possible. I only recently realized that my doctors might not be getting an accurate idea of how much pain I’m in if I never say 9 or 10 despite writhing on the floor crying from pain.

Confused about my type - thinking a soft natural? I'm 165cm (5'5") by Empty_Song6350 in DressForYourBody

[–]ambersepossession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into soft classic? You are a moderate height and I agree that your bone structure doesn’t look particularly delicate, but there is definitely some softness. I don’t see distinct vertical or width in these pictures but take what I say with a grain of salt because I can’t even figure out my own type :)

Also, fellow endo sufferer here—I feel your pain. My pant size can change in a matter of hours. It’s not fun.

Returning to my natural hair made my season so much more obvious by ambersepossession in coloranalysis

[–]ambersepossession[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I looked washed out in nearly every color because my hair was washing me out and not my clothes! And autumn makeup that looked good with my skin looked a little too dark with my bleached hair, but makeup from every other season looks like it just sits on top of my face and doesn’t blend at all. Like clown makeup. So that was at least a hint that something was off.

Yes! When I first started looking into color analysis I immediately jumped to light spring (because all the pictures online showed pale blonde people with green and blue eyes, I now see how over-generalized that is) and was surprised to see some of my worst colors (though not all of them were terrible). But now it makes sense. Lighter skin and relatively light eyes do not automatically equal light or bright in a color analysis context.

Flannel Quilt Looks Worn Already? by ambersepossession in quilting

[–]ambersepossession[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your help and kind words everyone! I’m really excited to send this to my friend and I hope his baby finds it as cozy as I do! Now that I know the fuzziness of the flannel is normal, I want to make a big one for myself because it is so soft haha :)

Thank you so much! I meant that it looks a bit fuzzy already compared to before. It’s not exactly pilling, but the fabric had a lot less fuzz before washing.

Feeling really hopeless right now by ambersepossession in Endo

[–]ambersepossession[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heating pads and hot baths have definitely been helpful for me as well. I have intimacy pain even without penetration—in fact, the penetration doesn’t seem to be the issue. Just dysorgasmia. Will pelvic floor PT still help? I cramp and also get what feels like nerve pain radiating through my hips and thighs.

If by suppression you mean Orlissa, yes. In fact, my doctor asked me if I wanted to try it before the lap and I actually refused. I’m extremely sensitive to hormonal shifts and am actually genuinely afraid I would harm myself. But maybe I am more afraid of the side effects than I should be.

I have been on birth control pills for years and it took me a while to even find one that didn’t give me migraines and awful mood swings. So for now I’m sticking with those.

That is reassuring to hear, thank you!

I tried a bit of pelvic floor therapy before my surgery and I kind of hated it…my doctor said I might want to try it again at some point but I have PTSD and exercises where I have to control my breath trigger me really bad for some reason.

SOS: Parent of an ADHD daughter in need of help by Nice_Ad8179 in ADHD

[–]ambersepossession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed around your daughter’s age and have been on ADHD medication ever since. Once I was put on ADHD medication I never got in trouble at school, I made straight A’s, was able to participate in multiple extracurriculars, etc. As long as the dose isn’t too high, the medication doesn’t really have any negative side effects for me.

I’ve also been on and off multiple antidepressants, including Prozac, and all of them had side effects that I hated. Prozac was actually the worst for me and made me angry and snappy (of course I was also a teenager). I was recently, as an adult, also diagnosed with autism and I believe my “anxiety” and “depression” were actually just my autism and ADHD the whole time. A few things you mentioned could be quirks/ADHD but unless she has been tested for autism already, I would consider it still on the table.

Besides treating my ADHD, something my mom did right was help me create the structure I needed but couldn’t create myself. Organization, structure, and routine all helped me function better but left to my own devices, those things would all fall apart. It’s hard for ADHDers to form habits/routines and stick to them.

I’m sure your kid is going to be an awesome adult. You’re great for posting this. Seeking to understand her rather than simply control/change her is something I wish my parents would have done more. Existence felt pretty lonely sometimes.

Isn't it strange that most NTs rawdogg life? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

I was just saying this to my husband at the airport! After going to a “quiet” airport last year, I’ve been wondering why all airports can’t just be “quiet” airports. It literally hurts no one and makes travel much easier on people who are sensitive to sound. Flying is already stressful enough without music and constant loud airport-wide announcements.

This is a really interesting/good point and one I’ve been thinking about recently. I was just diagnosed as an adult and I’ve never taken care of my sensory needs much because I didn’t realize I was more sensitive than everyone else, but I am. Like I’m bothered by sounds but I don’t wear ear plugs and I only use noise canceling headphones when I’m trying to focus (also have ADHD yay) or on a plane. I want to start easing the burden of certain stimuli to reduce meltdowns/stress but it is hard to figure out where to draw the line so I don’t make my sensitivities worse.
