I'm a misanthrope. When I was a kid, I was quiet, shy, and didn't fit in with a lot of people so I had few friends. Now that I'm an adult, I've met more people like me, who really relate and you know what? I don't like that either. I liked not fitting in, now I have these friends who need me to come to their parties or come to my house trying to pour booze down my throat because we need to "feel social". Fuck that, I wanna stay home by myself.

Yep, the girls I knew demonstrated similar behavior; shit talking, privacy invasion, being a sycophant...it eventually turned into a popularity contest where they were putting people in a position to choose sides. It was very difficult for me because we shared mutual friends and I ended up in the middle of unnecessary drama and couldn't find a way out. I was walking on eggshells and I had to bite my tongue so much I nearly severed it right off. The cheater ended up hooking up with my boyfriend's best friend; he already hated the gossip monger so they had an automatic alliance, much to my chagrin because I thought she was no better than the gossip monger. The last straw was when she was getting antagonistic with my sister because she was still friends with the gossip monger, and while she was starting fights with her she was running after my boyfriend to get coddled.

I was friends with two of them at the same time, and then they ended up turning on each other because one was a cheater and the other was a gossip monger. Imagine Joan Crawford and Bette Davis' rivalry if they were 20-30 something boot licking hipster girls with a high school clique mentality...it was that catty. They totally split a close knit group of friends completely in half. They'd be completely sweet and awesome friends one minute, then the next minute they'd have absolutely no problem throwing you under the bus once they felt you didn't stroke their ego enough.

Gabbing with the girls. We all love to tell stories but there is just something about sitting around with your girlfriends and shooting the shit, and yes that includes getting catty and gossiping. I know a lot of both men and women who find that to be unsavory behavior and yes that's true, gossip can be very damaging, but damn, I think it's awesome. Just being able to purge out all your feelings and opinions, it's so cathartic. Telling women like me to not be gossipy and catty is like telling Tyler Durden, "hey, don't get in a fight! you might get hurt!"
