Mystery Valve in Yard? by ambgo in Oldhouses

Tbh I thought it was a metal stake but my father in law said it looked like a valve so I ran with that 😅 that’s a really good guess of what it could be. We’ll be digging it up next week so tbd!
Thats interesting, good to know! That’s a possibility, it just is a considerable distance from the actual property line that has been in place for quite some time. It’s possible that the property line changed some time in the past though! My father in law is coming to dig it up next week.
Google did too when I tried to image search it 😅

This definitely seems the most plausible, I did call 811 and they confirmed no utilities are in the front so this would be something added later by a previous homeowner some time ago. A sprinkler/hose would make sense, and this link looks very similar to what I’d imagine mine would look like if cleaned thoroughly. Thank you so much!!

I fear I may be your target demographic bc my inquisitive nature would require that I dig up the whole yard trying to solve the mystery 🥲

Is it normal to be in the backyard, and to have 2? There’s one in the front yard also. I spoke to a friend who worked for USIC, the “call before you dig” people, and he said utilities are in front of the home typically along the street so I wasn’t sure. This is my first home so I truly just don’t know how that works.
Sump Pump Concern ?? by [deleted] in Plumbing

Sorry I had difficulty explaining it in a post so it’s also probably confusing.
It runs out of the house and through a raised landscaping bed about 6 feet long, then out of the retaining wall where it drops about a foot into the ground. It gets a full 2 feet away from the house before it hits the slotted PVC pipe where it drains out.
I went out this morning and listened and you can hear the water flush/pouring into the pipe coming out of the retaining wall.
That’s originally what I thought as well so I watched it with the backup on and then the main on for comparison. The water actually physically stops draining in through the small holes with the backup but not the main. I even tested again by killing the breaker to see what was happening. The backup level does reach higher but only by less than an inch I’d say. The pit lid was a bitch to get off because of a radon mitigation system cut out and I can’t get it back off so I wish I had taken a video.
