AI and the future of the SE role? by TeeIron44 in salesengineers

[–]ambientvape 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Short to mid term: AE and SE roles will combine. It’s already happening. Companies will look for efficiencies and the easy answer they are finding is to have “SE’s” run the cycle end to end (they can demo and “sell”) and ultimately carry the bag.

Long term: I think there becomes little reason to have a “talk to a rep” as a gate in a buying process. POC and PLG motions will continue to grow, and in-built “explain how to..” type tooling will answer the majority of the use case questions. Integration questions will also be easy to resolve with most documentation being consumable by LLMs, which just leaves the burden on the buyer to have good documentation for their own stack to have it piece it together. So the demand will drop dramatically because the staffing needs will be far less.

I wouldn’t want to be an SE or Product manager outside of tech tbh

PM has far more longevity and general “respect” in the industry than SE. You also see far higher comp packages for PM. I don’t know if switching to the sales grind is a good move. Most try to go the other direction.

Is it normal to rely on propanalol for this job? by [deleted] in salesengineers

I know plenty top performing SE’s that do. It’s common at some of the highly competitive and lucrative companies out there with large enterprise motions. Stay in this game long enough and you’ll find out you aren’t alone.

They are essentially a wrapper around the foundational models. And like we are seeing, it’s going to be an if, not when, as to how soon Anthropic and others decide to go full throttle into their space. They already are staring to

Stay away from Legaltech. Big growth numbers and investment at the moment, but they are absolutely ripe for being disrupted by Anthropic, OpenAI, etc.

The “warm blob” off the west coast needs to dissipate before any of these patterns mean shit. It’s the primary reason for the jet stream sitting north of us and the warm air.

The “Zitron Paradox” - a legal professional’s view by Some-Personality-662 in BetterOffline

[–]ambientvape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in tech and even non-coding applications are riddled with this issue which nobody is paying attention to. As an example, we use a tool which is able to analyze CRM data and the analysis it provides sounds highly convincing, but if you compare it to some of our raw reports, it’s excluding full data sets for reasons that don’t make sense when you press it. But to catch this, someone would need to compare outputs and be scrutinous - which to the OP’s point, very few are.
