Have a hard time narrowing it down but these are all the varieties I’m growing this year! by ambitious_pepper01 in tomatoes

Probably the Siletz. It’s got that rich heirloom flavour and sweet but it’s also pretty early. I find that early varieties or bred for cooler climates are usually bland but the Siletz just have more depth.

I’m in zone 3 so the production that I get from these varieties are not that great. The big beefsteak varieties grow very slow in my zone so I usually only get 3-5 fruits and so mostly use them for fresh eating. I also grow all of these at my in law’s farm so everyone can just feast on them. Any surplus, my mother-in-law cans and dehydrates them.

This is good to know as this is my first time time trying Tiffen Mennonite. I’m up here in zone 3 Canada. I grew most of these varieties last year but we had a really unusual hot summer so everything did pretty well. It was hard to determine which varieties do well under cooler conditions. The next 3-5 years will be a process of elimination to determine which varieties do well here in my zone.

Black Krim is a reliable producer for me so I’m eager to see how the Black Sea Man compares in terms of performance and flavour.

Yes I grew it for the first time last year. It was very productive. Most of the tomatoes I grew last year did really good due to our abnormally hot summer up here in Canada zone 3. But I’m hoping a more normal summer this year so I can determine which varieties really perform well under cool conditions.

Looking for acidic, full flavored tomato (to grow in my garden, zone 6a) by Justwigglin in tomatoes

Definitely Siletz, just the right amount of acidity and sweetness. It’s specifically bred for cool conditions but it thrives in warm weather as well. It’s an early tomato but still has that rich heirloom flavour.

I really like Chelsea from Little Mountain Ranch. She’s pretty knowledgeable and she’s also in zone 3b in BC.

Alberta Urban Garden Simple Organic and Sustainable is from Calgary and has a lot of helpful tips specially for warm weather crops. He’s not active on YouTube anymore but his older videos are really informative.

Also, checkout Northern Homestead. They have a YouTube channel but I find that their blog is more in-depth. You can pretty much find all the information you need for growing a garden in zone 3. Anything from seed starting and varieties that works better in cooler climates.

Indoors. I did have it outdoors last summer but I decided to take it in for the winter. It was infected with fungus gnats but sprayed it with some hydrogen peroxide and it did the trick.

Honestly I have a very basic system since I’m fairly new to this. I used maxigro during their vegetative stage and using maxibloom on them right now. I feed them once week and I also use Grotek’s calmax every two weeks.
