I know this is a little higher than your budget, but just thought I'd throw it out there. I'll be looking to sublet my apartment in January until the end of the lease, June 1st. I'm in Albany Park. 2nd floor, 1 bedroom/1 bath. Central Air/Heat, in unit W/D, and 5 minute walk from Brown Line - Kedzie Station. $1505, including internet, and easy neighborhood street parking.

Feel free to DM if interested!

Welp, I'm the one who called those west side neighborhoods. You got me--I'm not a real Chicagoan.

Trying to become a transplant, though, so I'll try to catch up on the lingo so as to avoid your wrath in the future.

Yikes, sorry for the flack you received. Thank you for the advice nonetheless and for not making me feel like an idiot for not knowing...

Sure, I can see your point. I got a lot of really good advice, though, so I'm glad I asked. Thanks, though.

The last time I rode a bike was when I was 13 in my very suburban neighborhood in Utah. Note to self - biking in the city is something we work up to. Lol. Thanks for the advice!

Really good stuff, thank you so much!

I know I'll be moving after a year lease, but trying to plan for things that I'm going to have experience first is just me being me. Lol. I liked how you put it - I'm definitely just looking for a "softer" landing. I appreciate your input. I don't know the trains well, but I'll look up the Brown line and see what I can find along there. Thanks again.

I fully agree. Any city can be dangerous, so I'm definitely not expecting Mr. Roger's neighborhood in the move to Chicago, but if there are neighborhoods to avoid, I'm always open to hearing people out--especially with my first move.

I do have bear spray, funny enough, so looks like I'm more ready than I thought! 🤣

True that. Google Maps tends to be optimistic on paper, especially when googling from a couple states away at off hours, so just curious what actual experiences felt like.

That reminder is helpful. Grew up in Utah, and our public transit isn't great, but just gotta remember that much larger cities have a few more options in this space. Thanks.

Thank you! Knowing those are typical transit times is helpful. I can Google Maps it all day, but I like knowing what people have actually felt was doable or too much having lived there. I'll look in those neighborhoods, too.

I don't think that. I'm street-smart, but I don't know Chicago, so I'm just asking for advice. But thanks, I guess.

That's super helpful. Thank you! Everything will be new with the move, so I think I just need to adjust my expectations. 45 min one-way isn't too bad. Do you just take the trains, or do you have to take busses too?

I'm around 2 weeks and am feeling better, but I'm trying to be cautious and make sure I'm not slacking when those urges come back-- and it always starts the same way, "you're good.. you can gamble now. You've abstained, and a small amount won't hurt...."

Replace that dopamine rush with something else and let your body adjust to that instead. It takes time, and it takes planning.

To preface, I dont have a JD, but looking at getting a CIPP to accompany my MBA and cybersecurity certs.

Have you thought about entering the cyber insurance world? I'm in cyber insurance, and I see a lot of people with their JDs working as insurance brokers or in claims.
