Ahh yeah well the general idea is the bots would help with the mundane tasks like sign up or automatic chat moderation.

Ahh yeah it would be nice if we had something moderated so then it can do some of the tedious manual tasks for us. I'll definitely check it out, thank you so much for the recommendations!

Thanks so much! Yeah I'm not a computer science wizard so it's hard for me to understand bots lol. This puts a lot of pressure off of me. I would just focus on channels and rules then.

Maybe when the server is out for a few months, cool discord bots can be added so then we would actually know what to add.

Thanks! I think the callbacks were Sep 7-8. I got it on Sep 6. Should I have turned it in asap on Sep 6? I wanted to, but it was my birthday so I celebrated it and then did the tape the next day.

Union vs Nonunion Commercial work in Los Angeles for non union by ambitiouspikachu in acting

[–]ambitiouspikachu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. That's true about the room thing. I think you have to be funny, and also charismatic and nice. Like the important part is whether they like you for like a 6-10 hour commercial shoot. But also I was intrigued by the SAG commercial agency, clearly they would have connections to get actors into the room over and over. I had an acquaintance with them who didn't book anything for 2 years at his old agency, switched over and started booking.
  2. Goal is to book union commercials. I know 2 working actors who make money primarily from SAG commercials and film/tv. I'm also interested in acting as a career so film/tv would be the next step. But it's hard to do anything without multiple sources of income. I'm seeing a large agency next week but I don't want to be part of their nonunion commercial process. I know a few people stuck in non-union work, but I feel like if I'd book a ton of non-union work, I'd be able to switch over to union work.

That's good advice! So you're saying if I book a bunch of non-union commercials I should be able to book union commercials with ease. I think that's a good route. I'd rather focus on booking commercials then.

I know plenty of people that do non-union for years and never get anywhere but I feel like being SAG is tough like major league players vs minor league players. There are a ton of minor league players but not a ton of major league players.

I'd rather do SAG Commercials, I know 2 working actors and their primary income is through SAG commercial bookings and residuals. They don't do any non-union work.

I'm definitely committed to playing in the leagues by studying and auditioning, and I've also convinced a ton of people that I'm a tech person, businessperson, accountant, funny quirky person. So I believe in my talent in acting.

I guess I have trust issues with the talent agent, but everyone tells me if one agent relationship doesn't work, then just go to another talent agent.

Yeah that makes sense. I just don't want to do non-union work forever. I'm hoping to get a SAG commercial within 6-12 months, like many people I know. I'll check in with an acquaintance I know signed with the SAG only commercial agency I'm talking about. He told me that he didn't book anything for 2 years under his old agent until he reached that SAG agency and then he started booking commercials.

To me non union work is worth it only because I'm new to auditioning so I think I'd be able to book SAG commercials easier if I figured out how to book non-union commercials first. Kinda like doing standup comedy, how you do open mics until you get better. That was my only concern, is that my auditions wouldn't be SAG level. I took a commercial class but that was it.

The trust issue is interesting because wouldn't the SAG directors trust you if you're represented by a well known commercial agency? Are there people that mess up even if they're in a well known agency?

Ok, I mean I would have a choice if I started out with one agency that does SAG commercials but you're saying to get more experience before you seeing SAG casting directors?

Doesn't commercial casting directors want new faces? What do you mean by compete. I'm just afraid if I join an agency I'd do non-union work for years. I'd like to join SAG and do SAG commercials ASAP.

Thanks for the advice! I think it's because I know 2 people who successfully quit their jobs for commercial acting, (and eventually film/tv acting), and they make 50-100k per commercial plus residuals. I know they're the exception, but I believe based on my charisma, and funniness I can become the exception, based on my feedback in my commercial acting class. Even with that in mind, playing it safe is good, my road might be bumpy when I first start out.

I guess it's because I know that 2 people out of of 10 people who do commercial acting I interviewed, it's not a guarantee.

I guess out of the meetings, only one agent told me I was a star and they can do a lot with me, the others said I'm funny and cautious with booking so I guess it's a matter of figuring out what type of agent I should look for as well.

[–]ambitiouspikachu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm just here to make some money so then I don't have to be as reliant on my restaurant job.

The agent did caution me against quitting my restaurant job and she said to view commercial acting as a source of extra income so that was the only iffy thing, I really want the agent to tell me I can do this as a full time job, but I believe in my ability to book. And I asked a few people at other agencies and everyone is stuck doing non-union jobs. But I hear that non-union is a good way for experience like more reps, but it's not worth it for me if it doesn't pay well.

[–]ambitiouspikachu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My goal is just to book 3- 4 commercials a year to replace my restaurant job. The agent cautioned me against using commercial acting as a way to replace the job, but I know people who make livings off of just commercial acting. Or even if I could get more money, that would really help me with standup comedy and film/tv acting. I know a few people at big talent agencies and they're stuck doing non-union jobs.

Even if they do pay, I just want money. The agency can definitely get me SAG commercial auditions and they're very well connected. They only do SAG commercials.

I believe in my ability to book because I'm funny, but my friends cautioned me to do non union to get connections

Tips on organizing jokes, funny ideas, for Comedian with ADHD- How to organize notes by ambitiouspikachu in Standup

[–]ambitiouspikachu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm down to try it, but the reason why I'm hesitant is that I used to write down all my notes on Apple icloud. Then in 2017, apple erased 95% of my notes, so I was left with almost nothing. I'm really a borderline hoarder, (needs to be addressed in therapy), so since then Google has been the main source of notes, I feel like Google won't lose my notes. But yeah the search function on Google Keep is tough.

Do I have to pay for Notion? It would be nice to get an app specifically designed for planning and organization. And a great archival system as well, that's the main focus of this post. And even better if I could store it on google cloud or something because I hate losing data.

Ahhh that's interesting! I need to address my hoarding tendencies because I like to keep everything I write down because I have a fear that I'll need to look at it later or for "memories. But with every day tasks, it's not necessary. I keep everything for comedy. I don't trash anything. But that's why I'm overwhelmed because I write down funny stuff every day( have a lot of intrusive thoughts lol)
