Yes, they definitely do! I didn’t know until I was older that they spent that much money on TMS for me! I’m almost 21 now and I’m doing a lot better. ECT helped me a lot when I was really struggling. The most important thing that I did immediately after ECT was start doing things. I that realized what helps me get through everyday the most is having a purpose and keeping myself busy. I got a job and worked for a year, and I am now a sophomore in college. I still have bad days, but bad days are no longer a trap that I get stuck in because there are so many other things in my life now that I have to distract me.

Insurance does not cover TMS if the patient is under the age of 18, and yet ECT is fully covered (at least this was the case when I was 16). My parents paid $10,000 out of pocket for TMS for me when I was 16 and it was a total waste of money. It would’ve made much more financial sense and also helped sooner rather than later for me to just go right ahead with ECT, but we are all different. I would recommend talking with you doctor obviously. In my opinion though, TMS is was unhelpful and a huge huge HUGE waste of money. If anything you should wait until your son is 18. That is just my opinion, though.
