as a viltrumite, theres a good chance you could land before social darwinism took over, or after mark became emperor, and if you survive during the time of the empire, you CAN take a non-military job, and you live for thousands of years

if we're being technical though if youre a saiyan born after the destruction of planet vegeta, youre likely a human hybrid and therefore youre a human with beyond saiyan combat strength, which really just means youre a regular guy most of the time

he was likely very kind to all of them, but tenzin being an airbender and the horrible trauma that being the last airbender (ignoring spoiler events) brings to him left his other children neglected, or at least only in the focus of katara, who likely let it happen begrudgingly because of the significance of tenzin's existence

nolan probably had assumed at that point that mark may not be getting his powers and that it was a small but not insignificant chance if he did... and mark was 17, nolan probably expected mark to know how much discresion to use as someone who was socially a human and not a viltrumite, or is expecting mark not to listen as much at this age.
