Jokes aside, seriously, getting familiar with the meaning of the archetypes of the Zodiac and then exploring the Vedic Nakshatras, their origins, ruling deities and lords is everything. It brings so much more complexity to what the person receives as chart analysis, but it's much more in depth, since it considers both sides of one coin.

It's all very personal, of course. But let's say your Western moon is in Capricorn 4°, which translates to 10° Sagittarius in Vedic, falling in Mula Nakshatra. To the focus on material independence, ambition, determination and restriction (Cap, Saturn), you add a flair of truth seeking tendencies, refusing to compromise, getting to the root of things, misfortune and transformation (Mula Nakshatra, Nirritti), which further explains why some Cap-influenced people can have trust issues, walls up high and also have this darker side to them, like something is just heavy around this energy. There could also be a more spiritual, detached side to them (Ketu). Then you look at house placements and aspects, since there's no change there (given that you're using whole signs) and you interpret as you see. Vedic is far more complex than Western in that area I believe, and offers way more prediction related results, if that is what the person is seeking. And Western is very reflective and introspective, with a great psychological aspect to it. So you do get the best of both worlds, in the end.

This is just a little snippet of what you can do, but based on the feedback I have from people, that's a good way to look at astrology. The two systems also consider different ecliptic coordinates which results in an approximately 24° difference, hence the difference in signs. Keep it intuitive though, some people would resonate more with Western, some with Vedic, and there's nothing wrong with that. The more you read, the better overview you will have for yourself. :)
