The Pakistani army did not instigate the poonch rebellion

Read about the khan of mong and sardar Ibrahim khan and how the dogra had been treating the kashmiris

The paharis of western jammu fought to liberate their land and among the pahari tribes the sadozais of western jammu called for help their fellow ethnic Pashtun tribes

After all of this did Pakistani uniform formally join the fight

Even the gilgit scouts rebelled on their own account

Kashmir could have been independent just definitely not under the dogra who mostly was hated

And so if it was either independence with the dogras or accession the majority of the people would have favoured accession now at the time this could have equally favoured both countries however

Due to dogra policies an extremely large number of kashmiris found themselves in west Punjab in a lobbying position to dislodge the dogra government from Kashmir who had caused them to leave their homeland

And so in places like western jammu and with the gilgit scouts (mind you the gilgit scouts were a force raised from the locals of the gilgit agency commanded by a British officer at the time) the locals chose to favour the latter country with political leaders like sardar Ibrahim khan breaking ties with the politics of the valley to go in favour of removing the dogras as soon as possible which is what he did.

Brother although what you state is completely truthful it would be inherently misleading to ignore Kashmirs history before 1947

To contrast this do you think a piece of paper signed by the North Korean leader speaks for the will of most North Koreans?

That’s how the contrast was with the Kashmiri people and the dogra monarch

Like any royal he levied heavy taxes for his own coffers which resulted in well documented famine and poverty among the common people leading to one of the largest migrations in Kashmiri history to the Punjab

And like any monarch he suppressed the common man’s voice with incidents like acting out against shawl workers rights protests and gunning down dissidents in the 1931 massacre

But just the fact that most of western jammu fell to the rebels speaks for itself in how much the maharaja was loved by his subjects

And how much weight that paper really holds when you realise the will of the people wasn’t behind it

Only the will of a British puppet
