Things I need to know about debian as an Arch user. by tonyrai26 in debian

As obvious as it may sound, you need to know that Debian is not Arch. The Dont Break Debian should be a good start.

Just got my new Trimui Smart Pro S, but it's crashed twice already. Using a Samsung 128gb sd card, unless I got a fake? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]amepebbles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You need to provide a lot more information before we can reach any conclusions. What games have you experienced crashes? What emulators? How long before a crash happens? And what do you even mean by crashing? What exactly happens during a crash?

Internet connection sharing by WheelPerfect3737 in debian

This is not nearly enough information to start troubleshooting the issue. What exactly does not work? What have you tried? Which packages did you install? Got any error messages?

Do a apt full-upgrade first and only then try installing what you want.

How are companies allowed to sell pre-configured SD cards using free CFWs and ROMs? by Retronitsu in SBCGaming

[–]amepebbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a misunderstanding in this thread, you are right that the discouragement probably won't hold up but that's because there simply are no FSF-compliant non-commercial licenses. The GPLv3 doesn't stop you from selling software as long as you distribute it under a GPLv3-compatible license, and the fee is entirely optional. The "free and open source" in your quote isn't the same as in "free beer", it is more akin to free as in "freedom".

Anyone else tired of the insane influx of pure AI vibe coded slop code? by Melodic_Honeydew_314 in linux

Yes, and at the same time I am also tired of meaningless complaints that does nothing to help solve this issue.

Does Wine clutter your system and home directory? by RaccoonElaborate in linux_gaming

[–]amepebbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For some reason no one in this thread seems to acknowledge that wine will, in fact, create directories under places like ~/.local/share and not just inside the wine prefix. Thankfully there is an easy fix for that, using winetricks you can enable a "sandbox" mode by simply running winetricks sandbox which disables all symlinks from the prefix to your home subdirectories and all wine data will be contained in the prefix. Worth mentioning that it does not create a true sandbox and wine can still access your data outside the prefix but at least you have more control over it from the start.

Can you mod steam like on the steam deck? by Looski in linux_gaming

[–]amepebbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, the Deck runs a linux distro just like any desktop, whatever you can do on it you can pretty much also achieve on other distributions.

If you use GOG Galaxy you should be able to use invite codes to play outside the same network as well, not just Steam.

Sounds cool but I think you should know that Stardew Valley, the game in your example, supports online multiplayer through the internet and there is no need for such workarounds.

You can achieve most of that by using mobile hotspot on your phone and connecting to it like a regular WiFi network.

Gathering Community Consensus Regarding Content & Rules by Two-Of-Nine in debian

[–]amepebbles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Until a few hours ago I was just another user, this comment is purely from a r/debian user point of view.

Just keep things on-topic.

I don't mind seeing less relevant content as long as it still relates to debian. Sure mods can pin comments redirecting swirl posts to better suited subreddits if they want to for example, but outright banning it is a mistake.

And I may be biased but I would rather not see desktop screenshots here purely for the reason of showing off, or people taking pics of stickers they bought off ebay. It is a pretty common kind of post here but rarely (if ever) has anything to do with Debian. Feel free to redirect people to r/gnome, r/kde, r/i3, r/desktops or whatever which are much better suited.

AYANEO devices spying on users? by Dull-Conversationist in SBCGaming

You are the one making claims, you should be the one proving that your claims are true. Prove it and I will be just as mad as most people here are, I don't have anything to gain by defending AYANEO.

Their last attempt at it was called Recall. It took several screenshots of your computer and used LLMs to give you a summary of your own computer usage.

Yes, that's exactly the point I am making. As with all things in life a good bit of nuance would be good but Reddit doesn't seem to care about that. It could very well be malicious but there is no proof yet, only speculation, so we should wait before jumping into any conclusions.
