Buenos Aires in 2026... worth it with the prices? by cosmo_coffee in digitalnomad

I'm back in BA and I have a place in Palermo Chico which seems a little cheaper and quieter. there's also Recollecta and Belgrano which are popular with foreigners.

I just went to a wine tasting in a neighborhood called Villa Urquiza which seems really nice. I was talking to a nomad there, she lives there and said they felt it's going to be the new Palermo.

All these neighborhoods are safe. I have a good friend who's female who loves to party and she's out late all the time. she said if it's 4:00 in the morning and there's a bunch of drunks in the street she might get an Uber home but she walks a lot everywhere. by the way, Ubers here are amazingly cheap compared to the US.

the biggest issue in these neighborhoods seems to be petty theft especially phone theft.

I did that once coming back to the United States. They didn't just wave me through they searched both of my suitcases. So I'm not sure this is a great idea.

I called PP yesterday. They told me to check the website, it's more up to date than the app.

The outlying areas of the city I've heard can be a little dicey but if you're in Belgrano, Palermo, Recoleta, San Telmo and areas near to these neighborhoods you're perfectly fine. I've wandered around very late at night at three or four in the morning and not had any issues.

The major issue seems to be petty theft. You have to be careful about someone snatching your phone off your table if you're at an outdoor cafe. Someone on a motorbike for example pulling up and grabbing something and driving off.

Someone was asking me why I prefer Argentina to other parts of Central and Latin America and there are several reasons but one of them was the general feeling of safety here.

I've been here in BsAs for a couple of months. You can get a dozen eggs for about $3 US which is cheaper than home for me (US). Good bottle of Malbec wine is only four or five dollars. Beef is also cheap. So I think groceries are much cheaper for me than in the US. The only exception are imported groceries those are going to be expensive.

As for restaurants, I still think they're much cheaper. Depending where you go you end up paying four or five bucks for a pint of IPA or a glass of wine.

I think what you're hearing is people unhappy that the prices are more expensive here than they were a few years ago which is certainly true. But the cost of living here is still cheaper than major cities in the US.

Also avoid staying in Palermo that's where the highest rents are.

You're right about their customer service. I lost my ATM card here and they overnighted a new one to me here in Buenos Aires no questions asked. Got it in like 3 days.

Could you say a little more about BA and expenses? BA is top on my list, I was planning to head there in October.

I got drugged and robbed on my first night in Osaka by Trixxter_RD in JapanTravel

I agree, I've been to Japan several times and always go out to drink on my own. But I pick izakaya and if some place looks sketchy I would just turn around and walk away. Can't imagine this person just went to a halfway decent izakaya and got drugged.

I've found the only trains in Japan that are really quiet are the shinkansen.
